C.M. "Mac" McGuire passed away on January 18, 2010. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1933, to Michael and Mary McGuire. In 1953, he joined the United States Army and served as an MP (Military Police) in the Territory of Alaska. During this time, he married Margaret "Peggy" Hughes on November 12, 1955. After his service to his country, he began his professional career, first working for DuPont for several years, and later, with J.M. Huber Corporation. In 1989, he retired from J.M. Huber as vice president of marketing. After his retirement, Mac enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1992 with a double major of history and government. Mac was very involved in local politics and worked hard to support candidates he believed in. He was a founding member of the Lake Travis Republican Club (LTRC) in the 1990s and was a driving force in the development and expansion of this organization. The LTRC is now recognized as a major source of strength for local Republican candidates and office holders. In Mac's spare time, he enjoyed reading, following Longhorn sports, and, of course, following local and national politics. Mac was very devoted to his family. It especially showed in the way he cared for his wife, Peggy, during their 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children, Kathy Kalda and husband Barry of Austin, Joe and wife Michelle of Corvallis, Oregon, and David and wife Beth of Huntersville, North Carolina. Though most simply knew him as "Mac," his most cherished nickname was "Papa." His greatest joy were his grandchildren, Hannah, Stephanie (and husband A.K.), Ashley, Mark, Jennifer, Megan, Michelle, Sage, Willow, and his first great grandchild due next month. Funeral services will be held at Emmaus Catholic Church in Lakeway at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emmaus Activity Center or a charity of your choice.
