Christopher is survived by his mother Autumn Gerlach; his brother Micah Mackaly; his grandparents: David and Christie Kay, Wanda Benjamin, and Loretta Benjamin; his uncles and aunts: Scott Gerlach, Jason Benjamin, and Lisa and Hugo Mehl; his cousins: Matthew Kohlman, Lauren Kohlman, Katie Mehl, Matthew Mehl, Braden Benjamin, and Brynlee Benjamin; his great uncle and aunt: Dan and Elizabeth Kohlman; as well as many other close family members. He had a large loving family. Chris was a magnetic force in this world that brought everyone in his life closer together.
Christopher was born at Lewisville Hospital and spent his first 10 years living in Highland Village, Texas where he attended Christa McAuliffe Elementary. He then moved to Austin and attended Mathews Elementary, O'Henry Middle School, Austin High School, and Garza High School.
Chris loved sports: he played on soccer, baseball, roller hockey, and football teams. Over his life he was also deeply passionate about each of the following: trains, storm chasing, wakeboarding, skateboarding, long boarding, snowboarding, surfing, BMX riding, hiking, fishing, riding horses, animals in general, tall mountains, oceans, and wide open spaces. Chris became an avid sport bike motorcyclist and his latest bike was a Suzuki GSX-R1000. He loved music all his life and played the piano, keyboard, and guitar. Chris was a very intuitive, intelligent, creative, and emotionally astute human being. He was a complex person who loved to explore ideas with other people, he was a deep thinker, and he had an incredibly witty sense of humor.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 6 pm at Mercury Hall, 615 Cardinal Lane, Austin, Texas, 78704.
