Charles was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas, on April 25, 1933. He lived most of his life in Austin, having attended the University of Texas Austin, he remained deeply immersed in the Longhorn culture he loved. As a high-achieving student, not only was he a member of the Austin High Band, Charles made reading and learning a way of life. Charles could be considered a Renaissance man, with diverse interests such as science, photography and technology throughout his life.
Of all of his diverse interests, the one that dominated and characterized Charles best was his love of history – specifically family history. Anyone who spent any time in his presence is familiar with his stories about his mother’s life in El Paso and her encounter with Pancho Villa, or how he could expound for hours on the Denman family history back to British royalty. His knowledge of family history and his willingness to share the stories was bottomless. He was Ancestry.com before the website existed.
Growing up as an only child, Charles’s cousins became as close as siblings. He loved family and thoroughly enjoyed being part of large family gatherings. Family was the most important part of his life. He is survived by his numerous cousins and one aunt, Joyce Denman.
