Charles K. Goldman

Charles Kay Goldman, age 88, was born April 27, 1922 and died Tuesday June 15, 2010 in Austin, Texas. Mr. Goldman was the son of Edwin Charles and Pearl Kay Goldman, and grandson of Heinrich Adolph and Augusta Steiner Goldmann and Newton Calvin and Nancy Drake Kay. Born in Victoria, Texas and reared in San Antonio, Mr. Goldman graduated from Texas Military Institute with the second highest ranking in his class. After graduation he attended Hampton-Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia where he pledged and became a life member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He married Virginia Howell in 1943. A lifelong Presbyterian, he joined University Presbyterian Church in Austin with his parents in 1945 and was later a deacon. After serving as a P-47 fighter pilot during World War II, Mr. Goldman graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA degree in 1949, while continuing to fly P-51s at Bergstrom Air Force Base. He retired a Captain from the USAF Reserves in 1950 to begin his business career and start a family of three children with Virginia, and continued to fly. He joined and remained an active member of the Quiet Birdmen, an organization for retired military pilots. He also was a thirty-year member of the Austin Saengerrunde, a singing and bowling group.

Mr. Goldman is survived by his daughter, Nancy Goldman Sands of Dallas; his sons William Stuart Goldmann of Austin, Christopher Howell Goldmann and his wife Lisa Meier Goldmann of Austin; his grandchildren, Lydia Lygon Sands of Santa Monica, California, John Clayton Sands, Julia Elizabeth Sands both of Dallas, Christopher Carl Goldmann, Kurt Heinrich Goldmann both of Austin, his brother, Edwin Milford Goldman of Austin and niece, Ann Goldman Lawhorn of Denver, Colorado. Peggy Staehely of Austin had been a recent dear friend. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Martha Henkel Goldman of Austin and son-in-law, David Keith Sands of Dallas.

Private burial services will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Victoria, Texas. A memorial service will follow in approximately one month at University Presbyterian Church when all family members are able to gather and celebrate the life of Charles K. Goldman.
