My gosh this is pure heart-break for me, I have been a tenant of Charlie for a year now and it saddens me that he is no longer here, He was a very nice man that I never ever had a problem with and was always a cheerful person, To his family friends, and loved one's may his soul forever rest in peace, My heart is heavy but I do no to be absent in the body is to be present with the lord. Rest in paradise my dear landlord!!

Cookie was one of our best friends on Norwood Ct. along with the Bernals and Billy Ray Ransleben.  We played alot of street baseball, baseball and football on the vacant lot and basketball at the Edison gym.  One of my best childhood memories was when Norman took Cookie and my brother Ronnie and I to the Moss ranch fishing in Llano Co.  A funny story is the time my brother and Cookie and I went under the Gerlich house to smoke.  Mr. Gerlich came out and was raking leaves when he noticed the door going under the house was unlached so he latched it trapping us under the house.  We always felt welcomed in the Gerlich home.  Cookie was a good athlete and a great childhood friend to grow up with.

I just heard about my friend Cookie's passing from my mother and my brother Henry today July 4th.  My three brothers and I grew up with Cookie on Norwood Ct. in San Antonio in the 50's and 60's.  We were the first Hispanic family on Norwood St. and in our general neigborhood as far as I can remember.  Cookie was a real gentleman and friend even back then as he and the Schneider boys, Ronnie and OW, accepted us wholeheartedly just like any other kids on the block.  We taught them a few choice Spanish words, and they taught us a few in German.  Cookie was one of the first "older" guys that I looked up to.  We played baseball, football, and shot our BB guns together.  We had a great time living life and playing together in our neighborhood full of boys.  After Cookie and I both graduated from Edison HS and went our separate ways in the late 60's, I did not see him again until I bumped into him at Canyon Vista MS where our sons Brian and Jesse went to school together and played basketball for CVMS in 1990-91.  After Cookie moved to Georgetown, I ran into him one time there and I am so sad that that is the last time I ever saw him.  I am so happy to read what a great influence he was to so many people, especially those he coached in sports.  I will always remember Cookie and his black three-spead Schwinn bike (that I thought was so cool) and later his black Ford convertible.  My prayers are with his family.  I will add Cookie to my morning prayers that I have been saying for over 20 years.  May he rest in peace and may his family be consoled by the love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

I knew Charlie through Mike Murphy, all during the last 25 years.  He coached both of my sons in youth baseball leagues before they were in their teens. There was never a doubt in my mind about him being an exceptional human being, a people lover and a giver in every respect, and all that while being as responsible as he could possibly be. I probably had more phone conversations with Charlie than I did personal encounters over the years because my two sons and I often turned to him for advice over these many years, and we all knew we could depend upon a credible and knowledgeable answer.  I will miss him for that and many other reasons. 

Charlie, to me, was a true Child of God, wanting the best for those he loved. Therefore, "There can be no case against a child of God. The case may be fool-proof, but it is not God-proof. The Holy Spirit will not hear it, because He can only witness truly."

Charlie was one special guy.  I grew up with him as a role model being that him and my father coached our little league team.  I am painfully hurt to hear of the loss of such a great man, friend, and Coach.  My heart goes out to the children and especially my buddy Jeff.  Thanks for all of the lessons and humor your brought to my life Mr. Gerlich.  Love you bud....rest in piece Charlie.

My mind is filled with memories of long hours at the baseball fields in Georgetown watching Charlie, and my late husband, coaching our boys.  The photo of him in this Guest Book is just how I remember Charlie - a man with a twinkle in his eye and one of the most contagious smiles I've ever seen!  My heart is heavy for his family as they begin the process of grieving the loss of such a wonderful man.

I knew Charles as "Cookie". A name I believe his mother gave him due to his fondness for cookies. My brother OW and I spent endless days playing baseball or football with him in the street on Norwood Ct. or at the "vacant lot". Lord knows how many miles we logged together on our bicycles. He was a good B-B gun shot, and I would hate to know how many birds we accounted for on our hunting safaris up and down our alley. We also played on the same Little League team. I have a team picture from 1958. He was our short stop and a good one. Just a few of my memories.

When I think of Charlie, I remember him at dance lessons, and at the Oasis where his welcoming smile always made those coming out for the first time to dance feel comfortable. He would graciously step in for anyone needing a practice dance partner, and stayed late to make sure everyone got to their cars safely. Charlie, you will be greatly, greatly missed.  Lee

Charlie was our son-in-law's(Bryan's) stepDAD. For that we are very grateful.
Bryan is the man he is, partially due to being raised by a loving stepDAD who was extremely involved in his upbringing and part of the reason for his love of sports. Bryan learned some meaningful traits from Charlie for which we are thankful. Not many kids have the opportunity to love and be loved by three different Grandpa's(Grandaddy, Papa John, & Opa), but in this family, 'Grandaddy' will be sorely missed. '†'...<

I have known Charlie for many years. He was a great builder and a wonderful family man. You have my deepest sympathy. Life can be very complex and difficult. I will always remember Charlie as a very special person and didicated to his family.

I remember Charlie attending my Sunday School Class in Georgetown TX. He was such an asset to the church ... the way he conversed with other men and contributed to the friendliness of its members. He was fun to be around. So relaxed and comfortable to be with. He seemed like a true southern, Texas man. Very cordial. Texas lost a good man!
