Cecil Walter Smith died August 12, 2010 at the age of 81. He was born in Austin, Texas February 18, 1929 to Norman Lee Smith, Jr. and Dorothy E. Smith, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Shirley
Swenson of Austin, brothers, Norman Lee Smith III of Austin and Russell Alan Smith of Red Rock and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was a graduate of the University of Texas and after serving in the U. S. Army for two years, he earned a master's degree at Texas State University at San Marcos. Following that, he taught school for 29 years in Copperas Cove, Texas and was a much admired and beloved teacher. During that time he was a member of Grace Methodist Church, where he had many close friends. After retirement, he returned to Austin and resumed his membership at Hyde Park Christian Church, faithfully serving there. Cecil loved and served the Lord in many ways and was a loving and generous brother and friend. He was known and loved by many for his gentle, kind nature, and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 16th at Hyde Park Christian Church, 610 East 45th Street in Austin. Services will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jacqueline Baker presiding. Burial will be at Capital Parks in Pflugerville.
If desired, memorials may be made to Hyde Park Christian Church.
