January 13, 1942 – September 23, 2023
As you are sitting here today, I am with my Savior. I am now in my real home. This body, that I have no more use for, is dead and will be put in the ground, but I can assure you that I am not there. If you want to shed tears, make them tears of joy that I have been released from all my pain and I am rejoicing. Remember that I am with my Lord and have joined all that have gone before me.
I have had a life blessed beyond belief. I was born in Bryan, Texas and was raised by my wonderful, hardworking Christian parents, Edwin and Elsie Scogin in Columbus, Texas. I graduated from Columbus High School and the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration. I have one sister, Elsie Joyce Miller that I love dearly. My sister and sister-in laws blessed me with precious nieces and nephews. There were also many aunts, uncles, and cousins that were a part of my growing up years. Today I am still blessed with a wonderful extended family, although there are fewer of us on earth as the Lord takes us home.
Another undeserved blessing was my husband, Frank Prior Beynon, who predeceased me in 2006. We were married on December 26, 1965. Of course, my two most precious gifts are our daughters, Annette and Andrea. Our eldest daughter Annette Beynon Graves and her husband Trey, gave us Caroline Elizabeth, our first granddaughter. Our youngest daughter Andrea Beynon McWilliams gave us three wonderful grandchildren, Madison Grace, Maxwell Dean, and Marcus Ross. As I reach the end of my life on earth, I reflect that my grandchildren have brought me such amazing happiness.
Some of the great joys in my adult life were the relationships that I formed throughout my career and volunteer opportunities. I especially treasure the many friends that I made in the decades I worked in the Texas Legislature, the friends I made through Bible Study Fellowship, and the friends I made volunteering with the Assistance League of Austin. Thank you for making my life richer with your friendship.
I have also been blessed by my wonderful church family at Hyde Park Baptist Church. The body of believers in this church has ministered to me in countless ways through the years. Not just by being good friends, but by lifting me up in prayer through my illness, and giving countless offers of help in any way needed. The church body behaves like a body of Christ is supposed to behave. These friends are special, caring people who know the loving art of bringing joy to others by sharing from the heart. I thank God that His plan included both our blood family and our church family.
When you read this, I will have taken my last breath here, and the next in Heaven. Many of you I will see again, but some I won’t, and that is the most difficult thing in the world to me. God has made provision that “none should perish,” by the sacrifice of His Son. You all are too valuable and cost Him too dearly not to receive that gift. And it is a gift. There is no way we can earn our way into Heaven, or buy our way, or work our way. The only way is through Jesus Christ. The most quoted verse in the Bible is John 3:16. Most learned it when in Vacation Bible School. “For God so loved the world, he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish, but would have everlasting life.” Please let that verse speak to your heart and receive the gift of salvation so we will meet again. Yours truly, Carolyn
