You were truelly the most loving, caring and funny person. You always put heart into me thanks for making second grade fun.

No words can express my pain, my heart is forever crushed, and so would have been Dad and Mothers. I am so sorry my 2 brothers, Sarah, Ross. My daughter, Avery, had Ms. Owens in 2nd grade - and absolutely loved having her as a teacher. She was always kind, generous and positive.  

As her teacher during 2020 - covid hit and she held the class together over emails and  Zoom. I can look back and see simple messages she sent encouraging and supporting my daughter every step of the way. She provided stability and positivity in a year of uncertainty. As a mom, I could tell she genuinely cared for our kids and was a light in their lives. I’m so grateful Avery had her for a teacher. 

We are so sorry for your loss. We are keeping you in our prayers and hope you find comfort and strength in many memories shared.

Her smile always lit up the room. Unbelievably sad. Still a treasure to have known her such a short time. 

Love you so much, friend. I couldn't have asked for a better partner in crime at work. I know for a fact I wouldn't have made it through teaching in virtual/Covid world without you. I am forever grateful for you and your friendship.

Caitlin spirit was different, her smile was a pleasure to see up close. Her sincerity was visible and refreshing. She always wanted was best for you and her humor was amazing. Murphy and I had a love/hate relationship and she found it hilarious. Caitlin thank you for being you. The idea of her not being here will probably not register for a while. 

I first met Caitlin at Camp Lone Star when we were in high school. We are only 2 weeks apart and became fast friends. I looked forward to getting to see her every summer. Caitlin, your smile was contagious, your heart held so much kindness and grace. I am grateful that you moved to Austin so we could reconnect as adults. You will be sorely missed. We are praying for you Ross, Sarah, and the Owens family. 

I’m so sorry for your loss. Caitlin was truly such a beautiful soul. She was always so kind and caring. Honestly such a dope person to speak with. One of my fondest memories of her is when Sarah, Marco, Caitlin, and I were standing around my parents kitchen island having some food. I asked Caitlin a bunch of questions about teaching and what it was like to be a teacher. I remember her telling me the best advice she said “we’re young and live once, do whatever makes you happy.” I’ll always remember her as a sweet, open, and caring person. She will be very missed.

Ms. Owens was a wonderful person and an amazing teacher who touched the lives of so many.  She will always be in our hearts and memories.

Caitlin was one of the most free spirited people I know, so kind, so goofy, so herself in so many ways and such an amazing older sister to my best friend. She was so supportive of Sarah and they were truly the best of friends on the deepest level. I used to think they literally look just like twins, same exact personality even, only Caitlin was the dark haired one and Sarah was the blonde one. 🥰 This was after Sarah’s nursing graduation and I remember Caitlin truly being her biggest fan she had the biggest smile on her face during the ceremony (and tears ❤️). My heart goes out to the Owens family as they are so close and I can’t even imagine being in their shoes at this time. Im praying for peace and comfort over all of Caitlin’s friends and family after this tragic week. 

Caitlin & I met at UINDY and I was immediately drawn to her beautiful smile, demeanor and positive presence. Like so many others, we have tons of wonderful memories. But one of my favorites is driving 20+ hours without stops to Panama City Beach for Spring Break without really having a solid plan as to where to where we were going. That’s where this photo comes into play, I had one of the best weeks of my life with her and I hope she felt the same. Or the night Whitney Houston passed away, we were driving in the rain to Franklin College and we both started crying. We blared Whitney’s hits, I’m sure Caitlin’s stereo system was already broken but we probably did it again. We belted out Whitney’s songs in memoriam, tears streaming and voices probably not strong enough to hit the high notes. She was never afraid to do anything she believed in, she wasn’t scared to be who she was and I will always admire her honesty and beauty (inside and out). I will always love you, Caitlin. 

Caitlin, where to even begin. We met freshman year of college and I knew right from the moment we said hello we would be soul sisters, forever friends. From roommates and sharing a bed to moving states and living thousands of miles away, our friendship never changed and I am so beyond grateful for that. We have millions of memories and amazing adventures butttt my favorite memories are the unplanned moments. From the random Afro man concert to hiking and having to take so many breaks because we were laughing so hard and couldn’t breathe. Caitlin, you were able to make those small moments unbelievable life memories. Your ability to love life in all its forms was so inspiring. You were the brightest light and the most beautiful human inside and out. Your smile lit up this world and touched every soul you met. I love you so much and will forever cherish this friendship.

When I called you panicking over the thought of  being a father, you encouraged me. You sent me endless men’s groups, dad groups, and videos to help prepare me. You took the time to meet me where I was because that’s the type of person you were. You cared. 

You were also incredibly energetic and adventurous. I’ll miss our comparisons about my favorite trails in the Smokey’s and your favorites in Texas and Colorado. I still watch The Amazing  Race to this day. And I always wonder how good we would’ve did if they did pick us when we applied all those years back. 

And above all. You were loving. You cared deeply about everyone you met and it was genuine. I’m not sure how you found the time to impact so many people in a positive way but I thank God he placed you in my life. I love you sweet lady. We will see each other again one day. 

I was fortunate enough to know Caitlin when she was a teacher at Blades Elementary in St. Louis. Her love and compassion for her students was always apparent in her day to day interaction with them. She loved them and they loved her. Her smile was contagious. She will be sorely missed. Rest in peace sweet Caitlin.

A CORE memory for me would be the time that Owens made a BEAUTIFUL bag of puppy chow for a float trip, and it hadn't even been nibbled on when a raccoon stole the entire bag out from under her lawn chair while she was sitting in it. She dutifully guarded the campsite and all of our food by carrying around a giant knife for the rest of the evening. It was hilarious. Just like her. 

Another memory is when Owens and I would convince random men at bars that she was born in Portugal for no good reason at all. It was our go-to. Everyone thought it was so cool that she was born in Portugal... HAHAHA!

I cannot forget the countless hours we spent driving around, blaring music and singing. This has to be number one for me. Some of my most feel-good memories are of us in the car. A SHOCKING memory of us in the car is when no-one would let her back out of her parking space when school let out in the Belleville West parking lot, and she ramped a parking curb to get out of her spot in her little (very low to the ground) Ford Taurus. YIKES... All the people in the cars around us were wide eyed (myself included) and she was just cracking up.

Owens, I will mostly miss the adventurous nature of our friendship. You were always up for anything - being my date at a random wedding, rollerblading in forest park, or enjoying frozen pizza while watching the sunset on the pontoon. I miss you so much and I love you so much. Thank you for providing me with so many years of friendship.

I remember liking her immediately upon meeting her, which is rare for me, and a testament to her character and kindness. I'm at a loss for words to hear of her passing, and I'm praying for peace and comfort to the loved ones she leaves behind. I'm so sorry for your loss. ❤️

One of my favorite things about Caitlin was how fiercely she loved. She loved people for who they were, their soul, she really saw people.  Caitlin could make you feel like the most special and important person in the world. Did I mention she was also HILARIOUS. We could laugh at anything and everything. Her bright spirit will live on in every act of kindness in my life.  She made me want to be better and I will never forget her or stop sharing her memory. Love you Caitlin ❤️

I am so saddened to hear about the passing of your sweet Caitlyn.  My heart breaks for your entire family. You are and will be in our prayers. 


We spent many days on the road together and I will cherish that time together forever. This was one of my favorite - just taking in the beauty of the coastline and being in awe for hours, at peace with where we were in that moment. Your laugh was contagious and your spirit was free. You will be greatly missed.

Caitlin was warm, kind, thoughtful, positive, and encouraging. She had an incredibly calming presence about her, and she was an absolutely delightful person to be around. Her smile was contagious, and her interest in others was always genuine. I am grateful for the time I had Caitlin as a presence in my life.

I remember Caitlin from our gradeschool years at Zion. What a kind, talented, overall awesome person to have as a classmate. My heart is hurting for her family-  her always sweet mom & her dedicated dad who was our basketball coach throughout the years, and her brother&sister. Sending prayers for comfort during this heart ache. 

Caitlyn was an extraordinary person! She always was such a joy and inspiration to be around. Although I only knew her through work, she was always willing and open to helping anyone through education and achieving a better knowledge base. She will be missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
