Bruce Robert Hardesty

Bruce Robert Hardesty, 60, of Austin, Texas, has moved from this life to the next, leaving his loved ones heartbroken but rich with memories of his laughter, kindness and love. Bruce left our lives on Mar 7, 2017, after a long struggle with diabetes.

Bruce was born February 12, 1957 in Washington, D. C., to Mary and Bob Hardesty. He moved to Austin in 1969, but remained a diehard Redskins fan throughout his life. He left Austin to attend Wesleyan College in Connecticut, then moved back to attend Law School at the University of Texas from 1980 to 1983. After law school, he biked across Ireland and Europe with his friends Russell, Alisa, Brian, and Paul, having adventures he always treasured. He lived in Houston for several years, then moved back to Austin in 1985, where he lived and practiced law for the rest of his life. Bruce loved to sit with friends and family and discuss, often heatedly, some minor point in politics or sports until his 'opponent' realized that Bruce was much more informed and well-read than seemed possible on the subject.

Bruce loved photography, music, history, the the Longhorns, boating on Lake Travis, his nephews Josh, Eric and Alden, his cousins, Rob and Marianne, his cousins once removed Penney and Lucille, his aunt Alice Suter Hardesty and his siblings, Ann, John and Beth. He also had a great love of dogs. Bruce enjoyed late night texts with his lifelong friend, Beto, and reconnecting with his cousins, the Hetzels and the Drozdas, in and around St. Louis. One of Bruce's favorite past times was spending time on the roof of his office building with his close friends from the building, having Friday afternoon lunch, happy hour, or watching fireworks on New Year's Eve.

Bruce will be missed by his friends and family, who will hold a private memorial service in the summer. Memorial contributions may be made in Bruce's name to the American Diabetes Association.
