Bobby Earl Wampler (Bob) died peacefully in his sleep Friday morning. He and his wife of 42 years, Verda Mae Kennemer Hale Wampler were residents of the Belmont Village Senior Living Center in Austin. Bob had been suffering from a long term illness, but had lived productively up until the last eighteen months.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Earl G. Wampler and Bessie Bevel Wampler, and by his twin brother, Billy J. Wampler.
Bob was a graduate of Lorenzo High School in Lorenzo, Texas, and attended Texas Tech University. He was Vice-President of Management Information Systems at Behrens Inc. (Cardinal Health) in Waco, Texas for thirty-four years. Bob and Verda Mae retired in Austin, Texas where they were members of First Baptist Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Verda Mae, and by his step-daughter, Janet Lee Hale and grandson, Anthony Hale Coniglio, both of Austin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins.
Bob was respected and loved by countless numbers of friends. He was a “tall Texan” (6’8”) with an even larger heart. He was known for his kindness, generosity, loving spirit, sense of humor, storytelling and his selfless way of living.
Bob loved to travel with Verda Mae and other family and friends and did so extensively. (Bob and Verda Mae met in Spain and traveled regularly in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and beyond.) Bob was an avid Bridge player, golfer, fisherman and cook.
He will be deeply missed by his family that adored him and by countless friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8th, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Austin.
