Bobbie Mae passed into eternal peace on August 31, 2022. Anyone who had the good fortune to spend a moment in her presence knew what love meant. She was born on January 30, 1934, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Robert and Teresa Mae Matthews. She is survived by her sister Patricia Saunders, nieces Melena Koch and Cheryl Silverthorn, grandniece Allison M Koch and grandnephew Travis Q Koch, many loved “children” and Godchildren and Prancy Pants, her beloved rescue pug.
Bobbie devoted her life to helping children in foster care and adoption. After getting her Bachelor's Degree, she served as a Missionary in Puebla, Mexico, teaching English to children. She graduated from Our Lady of The Lake with a Master's Degree in Social Work. After twenty-plus years with The Texas Department of Human Services, she retired as the Director of Child Protective Services. She worked another twenty years as Executive Director at The Settlement Home for Children in Austin. After “retirement,” she moved to Wimberley and worked at The Red Corral Ranch Retreat & Wedding Center, working alongside Colleen Reeves, establishing and maintaining all events.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Please make generous contributions to The Settlement Home and Unity Church of Wimberley. Also, take an important child to lunch.
