Bob Deryl Byrd, 92, left this world on July 16, 2009 to join his Lord in Heaven. He was born June 6, 1917 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Millard and Alma Byrd. In 1940 he married Virginia Price. A love that lasted sixty-nine years. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife Virginia, son Larry Byrd and wife Janis; two grandsons, Price Byrd USAF, Hank Caylor of Boulder, Co., two granddaughters, Rosemary Cuppernell USMC, Candace Goss of Round Rock; three great-grandsons, Scott Goss, Nathan Goss, and Robert Cuppernell. Bob was born again on August 5, 1951 when he placed his trust and faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The first eighteen years of his life was spent on a cotton farm in Oklahoma. After graduation from high school he moved to Amarillo, TX, where he worked for a packing company until being hired on by the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked for 38 years retiring as Assistant Trainmaster. He was often called by his co-workers as "the man with a smile in his voice". In his civic life he was active with the Boy Scouts and Little League baseball. He had a beautiful tenor voice and used it for singing praises to Jesus. He was a devoted husband, father, and great grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Austin Memorial Park.
