Billie Dean Thompson was born on August 10, 1934, in Sherman, Texas, and passed away on September 13, 2020, in Austin, Texas, and is under the care of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
Billie and her twin sister, Betty, grew up in Sherman, Texas, and were educated in the Sherman public school system. Billie was active in many activities in the Sherman area. She was an excellent tennis player and won a regional high school tennis tournament. She loved the water and was a strong swimmer. Later, as an employee of the Legislative Budget Board, Billie played catcher on the office softball team. She always exhibited her love for dogs in Sherman. She could be counted on to bring her pet dogs into bed in the early morning much to the consternation of her sister and mother. She also loved horses and regularly exercised a neighbor’s horse. Billie married Mack Thompson and they moved to Austin, Texas, in 1953. They would have two sons, Steve and Larry. Billie worked at various jobs in Austin until she finally entered the employment at the Legislative Budget Board. Billie would rise to the position of Data Base Manager and was among the first to have a PC on her desk. She attended many schools to advance in her position and became known for performing her “magic” for the Budget Examiners and Performance Analysts. In 1989, Billie and Budget Examiner Chet Dombrowski were married on the Dickson Farm in McDade, Texas, on October 21, 1989. They had an active life and moved to Bastrop, Texas, where they built a home with the intent of living out their lives there. In 2012 Billie was diagnosed with dementia and entered a period of physical and memory decline requiring assisted living and memory care.
Billie is preceded in death by her parents, Grayson County Judge George Lester Tribble and Lottie Marie (Bell) Tribble; husband, Edward Mack Thompson; sister, Betty Jean (Tribble) Reynolds. She leaves her husband, Chester Dombrowski, Jr.; her sons, Steven Mack Thompson (wife) Karen, Larry Wayne Thompson (wife Belinda); several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Special thanks are extended to Hope Dulock and the staff at Knights Assisted Living and Kristi Hoestenback, Case Manager at Heart to Heart Hospice for the excellent and loving care given to Billie.
