Bill Owen, age 77, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2005, at home after a courageous fight with lung cancer. He was born on September 25, 1927, in Elgin, Texas. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Rose Woods Owen; stepmother, Miss Kate Owen; brother, Calvin Lee Owen and stepsister Nelda Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Richard and wife Nadine Owen of Shreveport, La., Billy and wife Caroline Owen of Antelope, Ca., Danny Lee and wife Pat Owen of Bon Wier, Tx.; stepson, John and wife Carol Wrigley of Austin; brother, Robert A. Owen of McDade; grandchildren, Kennedy, Cory and Rick Jr. and wife Tracy Owen, Sara and J.B. Wrigley and Rhonda Touchton; great grandchildren Jacob and Joshua Owen; numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends. Bill worked many years as a custom-home builder, real estate developer, liquor storeowner and retired from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as a Field Project Inspector after 16 years. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid country music fan and a sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. His love in life was the Texas Longhorn Football team, the Longhorn Band and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of St. Ignatius Martyr Church. He was a long time member of the Texas Public Employees Association and AARP. Pallbearers will be Mark Dillard, Ronnie Dillard, J.B. Wrigley, Tommy Powell, Mike Daugherty and Dr. Glen Portie. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Ignatius Martyr Church or to your favorite Charity. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. and a Scripture Service will follow at 7:00 pm with Sr. Agnes Murray, IHM, officiating, on Thursday, July 14, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. His service will be held on Friday, July 15, at 10:00 am at St. Ignatius Martyr Church, 120 W. Oltorf, Austin, with Rev. Anthony Njoku officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
