Bill, also known as daddy, pee-paw, brother, husband, uncle and loyal friend, was born in Kirksville, Missouri, to W.O and Mabel Mackie.
He served in the Army, was a broadcast media professional who taught at the University of Texas in Austin and, ultimately, traveled the world transforming communities through his humanitarian efforts. Above all, Bill was a remarkable human who loved music, radio, TV, film and entertaining by singing and playing an array of instruments every chance he got. Kind, generous, and always charming, Bill was a light in the world.
Bill is predeceased by his beloved wife, Janice. Also by his first wife Jan Delasara who was the mother of their children and most recently he lost his precious Pomeranian, Roxy. Bill is survived by his sister, Maxine Farrar, and his daughters Kevin Mackie, Kendall Mackie Dunaway and Cameron Mackie Harlan. Bill is also survived by his son-in-law, Tommy Harlan, his granddaughter and her husband, Dylan Mackie-Hernandez and Josh Weiner, his sisters-in-law, Nancy Klapp and Kay Tiller, numerous nieces and nephews and a community of family, friends, colleagues and students who loved him dearly.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held Saturday August 19th at 2:00PM at Southwest Bible Church, 4625 W. William Cannon Drive, Building 6, Austin, TX 78749.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Southwest Bible Church at www.southwestbible.org/giving and select General Fund.
