Betty June Siros Burns passed away December 1, 2008, in Austin, Texas. She was born June 19, 1921, in Houston, Texas. She was the daughter of August Siros and Jewell Bedingfield. Betty met her husband of 62 years, William Burns (died in 2000), at Austin High School where they graduated in the class of 1938. Bill graduated from the University of Texas in chemical engineering. His work took them and their family to a number of places around the country. They lived in Texas City and Dickinson, TX, then moved to Savannah, GA, Neodesha, KS, and Bismarck, ND where Bill was the refinery manager for American Oil Company refineries there. They retired in Austin. Betty attended the University of Texas in Austin, and graduated from the University of Houston with a BA in psychology. Betty was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, honorary scholastic fraternity. She was accepted at Rice University but never had a chance to go. She taught briefly at Armstrong College in Savannah and was a professional genealogist. She is survived by son Dr. William Burns and wife Judy Warnock and their sons Will and Brian, by Dr. Laurel Burns and husband Prof. Rainer Newberry and their children Martin and Emily, by son Craig Burns, by son Roy Burns, grandchildren Constance and Mary Ann and their mother Diana, great-grandson Scott, and by Betty's sister Chili Hawes and her children Mason, Daniel, and Esha. A private family burial was conducted this past week.
