Benjamin C. Mendoza, 97, passed away peacefully to be with our Lord Thursday, September 29,2022 at his Austin, Texas home with his loving family by his side. Benjamin was born on December 30, 1924, in Hebbronville Texas to Rafael and Petra Mendoza. Benjamin was a son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, and a WWII Bronze Star recipient and veteran, most of all he was our dad. Benjamin loved to spend time with his family eating, laughing, and joking around. Benjamin was always so welcoming and loving to all who crossed his path.
Benjamin graduated from Laredo Junior College with an associate degree in Agriculture. Benjamin was Master Sergeant in the United States Army, to include the Army National Guard. Benjamin worked different jobs throughout his lifetime, which included Central Power and Light as a meter reader and a capitol police officer for Texas Department of Public Safety.
Benjamin married and was widowed with six children, later re-marrying and having six more children.
Benjamin Mendoza is survived by his wife Paula Mendoza of Austin, Texas. Daughter, Patricia White of San Antonio Texas and Family, Ana and Jesse Flores of Shalimar Florida and family, Rafael and Elsa Mendoza of Pflugerville Texas, Juanita and Alex Alvarado and family of Round Rock Texas and Benjamin Mendoza Jr. and family of Laredo Texas. Cynthia and Eric Polanco and Family of Round Rock Texas, Marco and Kellie Mendoza and Family of Belton Texas, Erica and Eric Ojeda and Family of Round Rock Texas, Rebecca and Armando Filoteo and family of Pflugerville Texas, Veronica Mendoza and family of Austin Texas, Joanna and Alex Kaiser and Family of Round Rock Texas. Benjamin is survived by thirty-seven grandchildren, and thirty-five great grandchildren. Benjamin preceded in death by his father Rafael Mendoza, his mother Petra Mendoza, brother Rafael Mendoza, sister Aracelia (Chita) Myers, sister Eva Salazar, sister Maria Leija, brother Rafael Mendoza, brother Francisco (Pancho) Mendoza, brother Ismael Mendoza and daughter Norma Flores. Benjamin is survived by his sister Virginia Leija, brother Arnoldo Mendoza, brother Alberto Mendoza and brother Cayetano Mendoza. He leaves behind nieces, nephews, and other family members. Ben or Benny as he was also known was also a great storyteller, he leaves a Legacy of family love and laughter.
A visitation for Benjamin will be held Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752 with a rosary service following from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM. A funeral mass will occur Monday, October 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin, Texas 78725 with a graveside service following at 1:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Hwy 195, Killeen, Texas 76542.
