Barbara Jean Jarman (Smith) passed away peacefully at her home in Round Rock in her sleep on May 17th, 2014. She was born on January 20, 1934 to Jefferson William Smith and Bessie Mavie McCombs in Fort Worth, Texas. Barbara spent many years helping children by using her skills as an Occupational Therapist in the school districts and private practices. Barbara was a lifelong quilter and member of several guilds through the course of her life, including her faithful friends and support group the Northwest Austin Sewing Club. Barbara was also a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and raised her three children in the church.
She is survived by her brothers Woodrow Smith and Stanley Smith; sister Valerie Halbach; her former husband Eugene Jarman; her children, Mark Jarman, Mei Beth Shepherd and husband Michael Shepherd, and Stephen Jarman; her grandchildren Kelsey Jarman and fiancé Matthew DeGhelder, and Megan Shepherd; and her great grandson Jasper DeGhelder.
A memorial service will be held at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church (NWHUMC, 7050 Village Center Drive Austin, TX) on Thursday May 22nd at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Memorial Fund at NWHUMC.
