Barbara Allen followed in her parents footsteps by living as they both did, until age 93. During her lifetime, she proved herself to be a pioneering woman, breaking many norms of her time, including a teaching career at LSU-Alexandria where she taught psychology for many years. She was also a published academic with several scholarly journal articles and a textbook on adolescent psychology. Barbara was also the first woman ever on the board of the Louisiana Savings Association. Upon retirement, she became a serious world traveler and had many adventures at home and all over the world. She was a member of the Austin Symphony which she loved and attended regularly for over 20 years.
Barbara outlived all three of her husbands, George Rothschild, Tom Allen and Al Wedel. She is survived by her two children, Chip and Debbie Rothschild, two grandsons, Andrew and Daniel Rothschild, and two great granddaughters, Betsy and Harriet. She also leaves many other beloved friends and relatives.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Gemiluth Chassodim Cemetery in Pineville, Louisiana.
There will be a memorial service, Saturday January 6th at 7:00pm at the Towers of Town Lake, 40 North IH-35, Austin, TX 78701.
