Audrey Ann Courville Spencer

Audrey Ann Courville Spencer passed away peacefully at home on March 16, 2010. She was born in Richard, Louisiana on August 20, 1941. She attended elementary school in Richard, Louisiana, and LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Her parents, Armand and Vena Courville, and an elder brother, Clifford, who died in a car accident in 1963, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Christopher Campbell Spencer, of Jonestown, Texas; her brother John Dallas "Buck" Courville and wife Dolores of Lake Charles, Louisiana; children Mary Monette Brazell of Ruston, Louisiana; Kelvin James Bellard and wife Kimberly of Florence, Texas; Renita Bogard Withrow and husband Steve of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Kyle Reed Bellard of Florence, Texas; and Haley Monette Elkins of Austin, Texas. Other surviving family members include a whole host of much-loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and their extended families, most of whom reside in Louisiana. One of Audrey's most treasured assets is her unique sense of humor. We fondly embrace her many attributes, including her silly antics, practical jokes and a very quick wit. Her knack for always looking on the bright side, finding humor wherever possible, and maintaining a positive, giving, good-natured outlook on all things has kept her life filled with friends and family who cherish and admire her. A long-time member of the Highland Village Church of Christ in Austin, Texas, Audrey has been thoroughly immersed with church activities, including Vacation Bible School, in which her considerable drama skills could be put to use. She was well known for her good cooking and made many a dish for those in need. Audrey also made a name for herself by tirelessly crocheting and embroidering all manner of blankets, scarves, and other gifts to be given to expectant mothers, friends, family and even those she did not know. No one was a stranger with Audrey. Audrey enjoyed trying new things and was fond of gardening, boating, fishing, reading, baking, sketching and painting. She particularly enjoyed traveling in which she could visit exotic locales and meet and converse with people from all walks of life. She enjoyed speaking in her native, Cajun French in which she was fluent. However her concern for the lonely cats at home, never allowed her to be gone from home too long. Audrey was known as the "life of the party" as she enjoyed meeting new people, keeping up with old friends, and sincerely found others' lives interesting and enlightening. Never one to judge others, she was the perfect example of what a true, Christian woman is, always a "giver", thinking of others, and in the many ways in which she helped others when needed. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Highland Village Church of Christ, 4716 Bull Creek Rd. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
