

He was united in marriage to Ida Jean Kennard for 68 years. Five children were born from this union.
A.G. was an entrepreneur and engaged in several different businesses which included owning and operating a motel, a record store, and a night club. He also branched into the fried chicken business. His most successful venture was Howard’s Barbecue that had locations on East 12th Street, Harvey Street, Burnet Road, and Airport Boulevard. He was also a caterer and street vendor at public events in Austin, such as the Willie Nelson Fourth of July concerts.
He accepted his call into the ministry and was ordained in 1987. Later that year, he obtained his Bachelor of Theology degree from Guadalupe College Theological Seminary in San Antonio, Texas. In 1989, he received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Guadalupe College in Seguin, Texas.
He was the Pastor of Saint Matthew Baptist Church for many years until his retirement in 2016.
He was preceded in death by wife, Ida Jean Kennard Howard; sons, Benny Howard and Randolph Howard; parents, Brady Howard and Genetta Howard; brothers, Brady Lee Howard and Oscar B. Howard, Sr.; and sisters, Annie Mae Howard Ockletree and Dessie Howard Hill.
He is survived by sons, Douglas Howard (Mary) of Cedar Park, Texas, Min. Clarence Anderson (Willie B.) of Mansfield, Texas, and Eric Howard of Pflugerville, Texas; daughter, Doris Howard (Min. Roy) of Pflugerville, Texas; grandchildren, Keith Anderson, Corbin Howard, Michelle Jones, LaTonya Coby, Kristal Howard, Corey Howard, Cole Howard, and Aaron Howard; and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
