August 14, 1929 - April 16th, 2023
Ann was born in Madison, Wisconsin to Mabel D. McGowan and Robert Steele Irwin. She was raised in both Wauwatosa and Lodi, Wisconsin. Attending Ripon College, she became Homecoming Queen in 1950 and graduated in 1951. She fell in love and married David W. Hines on August 22, 1953. Together they had seven children, David (Nancy), Tim (Ann), Bob (Kimberly), Jon (Domonique), Andy (Catherine), Ann Kathryn (Rob), Peter (Lorissa) and twenty-two grandchildren.
Ann will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, wonderful and patient mother, kind and helpful grandmother. She shared her passion for literature by reading to her children and grandchildren often and was never far from a NYTimes crossword puzzle. She had an incredible wit and always appreciated a good prank. As a life-long learner, Ann first completed a post-graduate Medical Record Librarian program in 1952 and in1990 received a Master of Science in Health Professions from Southwest Texas State University. Her thesis was entitled,The Personal Impact of HIV Infection: Medical, Social, and Economic. Throughout her life, Ann was an avid traveler. She especially enjoyed sharing her love of Scotland, England and Ireland with her children and grandchildren. This past year, Ann attended the weddings of three of her grandchildren in the United States and France.
She died peacefully at her home in Georgetown, Texas surrounded by her loving family. Funeral mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas.
