Ann Geraldine Borer Buck, 96, of Austin, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018. Her sweet spirit and kind heart always put others at ease, and she was adored by her family and friends. Geri went to Heaven holding the hand of her beloved husband.
Geri was born in New Rochelle, New York on August 10, 1921, to Anna Theresa Cunningham Borer and Herman J. Borer. Her family later moved to The Bronx, New York. Geri attended Evander Childs High School where she met her future husband, Henry Richard Buck. Richard first saw her shooting basketball hoops in a school courtyard, and they were together ever since. They were married at St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church – her family’s parish – on June 7, 1944.
Geri and Richard spent the next year in Houston, Texas, where Richard was finishing dental school. In June, 1945, after Richard’s graduation, they moved to San Diego, California, as Richard was in active duty with the U.S. Navy. Richard opened a dental practice in Orange, Texas in 1946. Lorayne and Ronnie were born in Orange. When Richard was called back to active duty for the Korean War, Geri moved to New York with their two children to live with family until Richard’s discharge in 1954. The family then moved to Buffalo, New York for Richard’s orthodontic training. In 1956, Geri and Richard relocated to Austin, Texas, for Richard’s new orthodontic practice. Their third child, Brian, was born in Austin. Geri loved Austin, and in addition to working at Richard’s practice, she participated in the local dental society events and Austin Junior Helping Hand. Geri was also a founding member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her children and their friends who visited at their Austin home and their Lake LBJ lake house. After Richard’s retirement, Geri enjoyed traveling, volunteering at Meals on Wheels, and spending time with her grandchildren. The couple moved into the Westminster community in December 2006.
Geri was predeceased by her son Ron in 2005, and by her sisters Kay Boyle and Pat Ferris. She is survived by her husband H. Richard Buck; daughter Lori Kendrick (James); son Brian Buck (Kate); her beloved grandchildren Brigid Buck Mooney (Brandon), Caitlin Buck, Molly Buck (fiancé Jac Saltzgiver), Kieran Buck, Quentin Buck, and Aidan Buck; great grandson Conor Mooney; sister Betty Forte, of Massapequa NY, and brother Richard Borer, of West Haven, CT, and many nieces and nephews.
