Anita was born in Rio Rico, Mexico and eventually made Austin her home. She married Azarias D. Vargas in 1966. In those 52 years, Momo and Popo raised three daughters, Les Galicia Dase, Sylvia Medrano and Elvia Anita Sykes. They were also blessed with two granddaughters, Ashton Hobbs and Claudia Sedillo, as well as, one great-grandson, Shawn Hobbs.
While she never had any sons, her pallbearers will always be considered the "mijos" of her life: Brian Dase (Les), Ray Medrano (Sylvia), Stanley Porter (Elvia), William Hobbs (Ashton), Glen Wingfield and Abel Sedillo.
Momo was always the life of any party and made friends easily. Any visitor would leave with a hug, a kiss and a full belly of her delicious home cooking. Her tortillas will be missed by many.
She empowered her daughters to have a strong work ethic, love for animals and always do for others. Momo enjoyed garage sales, gardening, socializing with her girlfriends and working out at the gym, well into her seventies. She enjoyed the music of Julio Iglesias and the movies of Antonio Banderas. Momo and Popo enjoyed their time together taking walks, going to the movies and chatting over coffee.
We will miss Momo's laughter, quick wit, and colorful stories. Her humor and wise cracking manner live on through her daughters. She was a devoted wife, mother and loyal friend, whose faith in God never failed. We have comfort knowing she now resides in the house of our Lord Jesus Christ.
