Anand (Anu) Chhabra, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 20th, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and even great-grandmother, who was always there when needed the most, offering her wisdom, support, and endless love.
She was born in Amritsar, India to Dr. Anup Singh Narula and Pritam Kaur. In 1963, her husband Harbhajan Singh Chhabra joined the United Nations and they spent the next 14 years living and working in several countries in Africa. Anu became very active during this time in charity and social events and mastered many skills and hobbies from learning several languages to playing bridge.
Known for her infectious smile, incredible independence, and unwavering love, Anu’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She enjoyed exploring the world, playing cards, dancing, and singing, and her home was always filled with laughter and love. Even during her hospital stay, she attempted to dance to Bhangra music and was smiling and blowing kisses to her family.
Full of strength, grace, and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her. Anu is survived by her daughters Anita Vadgama and Sarita Chhabra, her sons Navjot Chhabra and Deepjot (DJ) Chhabra and their spouses Ashok and Punita. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rajeev, Kavita and their spouses Sweta and Travis, as well as Austin, Ashley, Isha, and Zubin, her great-grandkids Sahil and Karina, her sister Kanwal and many, many friends and family throughout the world.
