Amy Elizabeth Zita Leal DiCarlo, 33, of Austin, TX, fell asleep in the Lord, at her normal bedtime on December 9, 2003. For those who knew her, it was particularly fitting that she was born into heaven on the feast day of St. Juan Diego. Amy is one of those special people to which everyone who met her, took an instant liking. Amy was born profoundly deaf and raised in Middletown/Bloomingburg, NY. She was taught to speak and read lips so she could live among the hearing by Antoinette Goffredo, in Roseto, PA. She earned a degree in elementary and special education from Alfred University, Alfred, NY. It was there that she met and married her husband of over 11 years, David DiCarlo, an employee of Motorola in Austin, TX for almost as long. She was a loving mother and wife that bore, nursed and home-schooled her children, even amidst her 6.5 year battle with breast cancer. All the while, she complained little and was always intensely and genuinely interested in other families lives and activities. Survivors include her husband of 11 years, David; her children, Dominic, Andrew and Celine; mother, Jean Rudy and husband Lambert (Scotchtown, NY); father, Ronald Leal and wife, Ricki (Goshen, NY); brother, Chris Leal and wife, Anne (Stamford, NY); sister, Lori and husband, Kevin and their children, AJ and Ja'Leesa Johnson (Gaithersburg, MD); parents-in-law, Sam and Carmel DiCarlo (Rome, NY); and sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne DiCarlo (Osseo, MN), Diane DiCarlo (Minnetonka, MN) and Paul and Michele DiCarlo (Rochester, MN. A Wake will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 13, 2003, at St. Marys Cathedral, Father Bud Roland as celebrant. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Austin, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys Cathedral Restoration Fund, 203 E. 10th St., Austin, TX 78701.
