Alvin L. Bennett, Jr. November 14, 1934 ~ April 16, 2008 It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Alvin L. Bennett, Jr. He passed peacefully at home with loving family present. The third of four sons, Alvin was born in Goose Creek, Texas to Alvin L. Bennett and Jessie Wintz Bennett on November 14, 1934. His deep love of Austin, Texas started in 1946, when his father accepted a teaching position at the University of Texas. Al graduated from Austin High School in 1953, and the University of Texas in 1966 with a degree in architectural engineering. He was president of the American Association of Architectural Engineers and was given the Bud Levy Award for Excellence in that profession. He spent the next thirty years pursuing that career and doing what he loved. Alvin is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother David Bennett, J.D. and two daughters, Diana Sue and Debra Kay Bennett. His survivors include his wife of thirty years, Sharon Wright Bennett of Austin, daughter Dr. Donna Bennett and husband Peter Zimmerman, three grandsons, Cameron, Colin and Clifford Wiley, all of Springville, Utah; stepdaughter Lynn Renee Leediker and husband John, two grandsons, Eric and Ryan Leediker, all of Phoenix, Arizona; stepdaughter Angela Trafton and husband Steve of Austin, granddaughter Kacy Dudley and husband Trey of Houston, and granddaughter Kristy Finley and husband Justin of Austin. He is also survived by his brothers, Professor Peter Bennett and wife Mary Lou of State College, Pennsylvania and Dr. Michael Bennett and wife Mary of Dallas, and his sister-¬in-law Beth Bennett of Austin. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. followed by a service celebrating his life at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Saturday, May 31, 2008.
