Her educational journey took her from Casis Elementary to St. Andrews Episcopal, O’Henry Junior High, and Austin High School. Allison continued her studies at the University of Texas and SMU-studies abroad program. She was a proud member of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, The Settlement Club of Austin, and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Allison delighted in canning pickles, decorating pretzel sticks and nibbles for gifts for family and friends! Gardening and travel reflected her vibrant spirit and zest for life.
Allison’s life was full of friendships through her schooling, Camp Longhorn, and university days. Allison's friendships multiplied through her years of teaching elementary school and bi-lingual education and her development work with the Seton Fund. She became an advocate for those with special needs and special circumstances. Her kind heart and ability to connect with others made her a bright light for everyone she touched.
Allison was the beloved daughter of Cecelia Cook and the late Mervin Cook. She was a sister to Chuck Cook, his wife Elizabeth, and their children - Catherine Cook, Charles Cook, and his wife Julia. Allison is also survived by her extended family - Aunt Cathy Horn, Uncle Ed Small, Aunt Pam Small, and their children Cecily and Scott Gooch, Clint and Allison Small, and Martha and James Dyess. Allison leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will always hold her memory dear in their hearts.
Allison’s family would like to express heartfelt thanks to her many physicians and entire medical team, the transportation crew and therapists for their dear friendship and support in Allison’s stroke rehabilitation.
A funeral service to celebrate Allison's life will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd 3201 Windsor Road in Austin, Texas on March 27, 2024, at 10 am.
In her memory, memorial contributions may be made to organizations close to Allison's heart, including the Lone Star Paralysis Scholarship Fund, Austin Speech Labs – One Step, The Settlement Home for Children, and The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Allison’s legacy of love, kindness, and advocacy will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps. May she rest in peace, knowing that her light will forever shine brightly in the lives of those she leaves behind.
