Alice was born on 7th December 1930 at 8 Monteith Row, Glasgow, Scotland, the 6th living child of the eight children of Alice Henry and Anthony Schwarz. Attending Charlotte Street and Holy Cross Elementary Schools followed by Holyrood and Notre Dame High schools. She achieved her School Leaving Certificate in 1947 and went to Stow College, Glasgow to study Ophthalmics, one of only two women in her class. On completion she took over the family Optician Shop at 90 Saltmarket in Glasgow until her younger brother, Harry qualified.
Then in 1954 she left Scotland to travel around the World starting in Connecticut with her cousins and working as a filing clerk in Waterbury Hospital. After 6 months, she took a job in New York with Trans Canada and met Vincent Masone, an Insurance clerk whom she married on 24th September 1958 in Glasgow Scotland, setting up home in New York. They had 2 sons, Alexander and Vincent and moved to Phoenix, Arizona and then Clinton New York State where Alice worked as an Assistant Cataloguer for Hamilton College. On retirement the whole family moved together to Alexandria, Virginia.
Vincent Masone Senior died 20th January 2007 Vincent Masone Junior died 27th August 2009 and Alexander Masone died 26th August 2011.
She took a whirlwind trip back to the United Kingdom to see those of her siblings still alive and met up with all her large extended family, taking a side trip to Northern Ireland to delve into the Family History with 3 of her nieces. Alice then moved down to Austin, Texas to be with family there.
She settled into the Austin scene joining St. Theresa of Lisieux parish where she was a member of the Ladies Club, Bible Study group and the Bridge Club, going on outings to the Painted Churches and the San Antonio Missions. In time she retired to Brookdale NorthWest Hills where she continued with her hobbies of knitting and reading, started up the Friday Bridge Group, supported the Bible Studies group, took up Bingo and enjoyed her later years. She was quite a character.
A Memorial Service will be held for Alice at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic Church in Austin, on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
