Alice Lorraine Garza, 101, of Austin, Texas passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. She was born in Laredo, Texas on December 3, 1922 to her parents, Henry Julian and Vincenta White Julian where she spent her childhood. She moved to Austin later on in life where she raised five children to adulthood alongside her husband Vincent Garza Sr.
Alice was a mother, homemaker, childcare giver, and domestic housekeeper; she even worked for many years at the University of Texas as a custodian for the Fine Arts Building.
Alice was a devoted Catholic her entire life and loved the Lord. She felt a true connection of kinship to the Blessed Mother. She enjoyed travelling and had various pilgrimages to many spiritual cities in Spain and France with her favorite being Lourdes. Some of her hobbies included tending to her garden, knitting, reading, dancing, listening to music, watching TV and movies; and going on cruises with her husband and friends.
Alice had a wonderful perspective on life, having a sense of what was right or wrong. She loved her family dearly and was eager to provide encouragement to them when they needed it. She had a compassion towards others and animals. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Vincenta Julian; husband, Vincent Garza Sr.; son, Vincent Garza Jr.; only sister, Lydia Trevino; and half-brothers, Andrew Julian, Vincent Julian, Charlie Julian, and Henry Julian.
Alice is survived by her children, Howard Garza, Carol Sue Garza, Michael Garza all of Austin, Texas; and James Garza and wife Bonnie of Langley, British Colombia, Canada; granddaughter, Alysa Skye Garza of North Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada; her half-brothers, Rudy Julian, Joseph “Tony” Julian, and Frankie Julian; and a host of extended family and friends.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Allen C. Piper, Frank Martinez, Rudy Trevino, Devin Williamson, James Garza, and Michael Garza. Honorary pallbearer will be Raymond Rendon.
