Alfred Reid Sr., age 75, of Austin, Texas went on to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Loving husband, father, granddad, great granddad, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and servant of the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Rebecca Reid, of South Carolina; his brothers, Theodore Reid and Arthur Reid of South Carolina; and his sisters, Rosa Lee Reid of South Carolina, and Martha Ward of New York.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susie Reid; his four children, daughter, Karren Fields (Michael) of Houston, Texas, his son, Kevin Reid (Lakeesha) of Bronx, New York, his daughter, Alvera Herron (Vance) of Kyle, Texas, his son, Alfred Reid (Mark Forston) of Austin, Texas; his sister, Alonia Reid of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; his sister-in-laws, Nettie Lee Reid of Cordsville, South Carolina, Molly Walwyn of Manhattan, New York, Mary Washington of Eutawville, South Carolina, Louise Burch of Bronx, New York; brother-in-laws, Lewis Walwyn of Manhattan, New York, Joseph Simmons of Bronx, New York; 11 grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Alfred Reid was born on January 5, 1942, in Cross, South Carolina, to parents Charlie and Rebecca Reid. He graduated from Central High School. After high school, he moved to New York City where he met and married the love of his life Susie Reid in 1964. To this union was born 2 sets of twins. Alfred accepted the Lord at a very young age. He was a great family man, a loving father, and a hard worker. Alfred and Susie moved to Austin, Texas in 1985 and begun a new chapter in their lives. Alfred retired from Austin Independent school district where he worked as head custodian at Walnut Creek Elementary. He loved each of the students and staff member that he was blessed to work with. Alfred was social and very active in his church community. He was a member of Impact Family Church where he loved serving the Lord and people and where he participated in numerous ministries. He was an avid gardener and loved to cook. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, singing, and spending time with his family and friends. He had the most amazing smile and a heart of Gold. He will live in our hearts forever and always be remembered as a loving and giving person.
A viewing is scheduled for family and friends on August 10, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a Celebration of Life is scheduled for August 11, 2017, at 10:00 am with a reception to follow at the Reid residence. Pastor John Larkam of Impact Family Church will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Alfred's life.
The family would like to thank the staff at Texas Oncology, St. David's hospital south, and the Christopher House for the care they provided. We would also like to thank our family and friends for their love, support, kind words, and fond memories during our time of bereavement.
