Alex was born and raised in Austin, TX.
Alex enjoyed life to the fullest, proudly serving in the Texas National Guard at 17 years old, then meeting the love of his life soon after. Her name was Ramona Ramirez, and he was smitten the moment she caught his eye. They started their family in Austin, and he began his career as a general foreman with Glastron Boat Co. building fishing and pleasure boats. He quickly gained the respect of the company and its employees he was in charge of, because he treated everyone equally and trained them to take his job. When the plant was shut down, he took a job as a cement truck driver with Texas Ready Mix. After surviving a collision that almost took his life, with the help and care of his wife and his Lord and savior, he was able to walk again and began his career for the City of Austin as an equipment operator. Alex retired from the City of Austin with a Distinguished Service Award and Commendation Letter from Austin Mayor Bruce Todd. Alex loved traveling and he loved food. His favorite thing to eat was a “Papas Rancheras” taco from Don’s BBQ. His friends and family knew his love for football, fishing, boating and “old western” movies, were always a way to strike a conversation of passion. He proudly served the great state of Texas defending The Alamo...(the movie, as an extra ). Alex was a man of great faith whose fervent personal relationship with Jesus Christ allowed him to serve as a Deacon at Hyde Park Baptist Church, to which he and his wife are faithful are members.
Alex was a dependable, hard-working man, but his love for his family was unconditional. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband whose family was the center of his universe. He was a family man tried and true and his actions proved “family first”. He and his best friend and wife, Mona, had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 06, 2023. Alex was also a devoted and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, tio and brother “adopting” children as he lived. Those who knew him, saw the kindest and sweetest example of a husband to his wife and dad to his daughters. The stories and memories he left us will be cherished as long as we live. He will be greatly missed.
