Austin native, Albert G. Carrillo, 69, went to meet our Lord on December 31, 2006. Albert was born to Antero & Julia Gutierrez Carrillo of Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico on April 8, 1937. He graduated from Austin High in 1956 and eventually joined the Army, where he was stationed in Korea. After his return to Austin, Albert met his future wife, Vivian Uriegas, at a Knights of Columbus dance. In June 1966, they were married. He worked for the State Board of Insurance and remained with the State for 28 years. Albert, Vivian and their five children took many summer vacation trips to Saltillo and to Rockport, TX both places hold very special family memories. In 1987, the Carrillo family was devastated when his daughter, Maria Teresita, was killed by a drunk driver. Albert experienced a new joy when his first grandchild, Marc Antonie, arrived in 1992. Marc was followed by seven more grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Albert was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved people and truly never met a stranger. His true passion in life was helping children, particularly those with special needs. Among the many organizations to which he donated his time are Special Olympics, Boy Scouts, Exceptional Games, recreation centers, Dawson, Sanchez and Zilker Elementary schools and, most recently, Austin High Schools Continuing Education Fund. One of his proudest endeavors was the creation of the Austin Youth Fair. There were no strangers in Mr. Cs world, just friends he hadnt met yet. He will be remembered as a family man, who cared for his wife with unlimited selflessness. He will also be remembered as a great friend and storyteller. Left to mourn his loss are his children, Christopher Carrillo, Margaret Morones, Luis, and his wife Julie, Carrillo and Carmella, and her husband Michael, Zavala; his grandchildren, Marc Carrillo, Joe Sanchez, Jazmin Morones, Danielle, Devin and Diego Zavala and Maria and Marty Carrillo; his brother, Lucas Carrillo, sisters, Andrea Estrada & Guadalupe Limon; and many more close friends and family members, including lifelong friend Jerry Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his daughter, as well as his brother Miguel Mike Carrillo and infant sister Teresita. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at Wilke Clay Fish funeral home, 2620 South Congress Ave. He will lie in state from 8 am to 9 pm on Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Ignatius Martyr Church at 10 am on Saturday, January 6. Father Joe Tomei will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marc Antonie Carrillo, John Amberger, Michael Villegas, Mario Carrillo, Rolando Carrillo, Louis Perez, Jr., Hector Rodriguez and Jason Nazari. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Sanchez, Devin Zavala, Martin Carrillo and Diego Zavala. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Austin High School Continuing Education Fund, Attn: Marty Rosenfield Austin Trust Company, 336 S. Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704, or to the Carrillo family. The family wishes to thank Engine #7 of the Austin Fire Department and the EMS for their caring assistance on his final day.
