For some reason tonight I was thinking of our neighbour Bill in Sauble Beach and googled his name. Very sad to read of his passing in 2020. We shared many weekend conversations and enjoyed their company immensely. Happy memories. 

I am so sorry for your loss. Bill was such a wonderful neighbour. Always on the go, full of energy and yet so calm.  It was such a pleasure living next door to him,  and learning  some of the history about our neighbourhood.  He was a wealth of knowledge, so wise and yet, had a quiet sense of humour. I can still picture him chatting over the fence, sharing some stories with a glass or 2  of wine. He will be missed, but I'm sure he will be out there somewhere celebrating with Evelyn.



There will be few who knew Bill Summers as a friend and colleague as long as I.
I knew him
-in the playground at Church Street Public School, now the Aurora Cultural Centre,
- as a young man about town and as a family man,
- as a colleague in the refrigeration trade, at Cousins Dairy, at T.H. Oliver Ltd., and at Summers and Smith.
- And I knew him as always the consummate gentleman.
I will miss Bill's friendly voice.

I just heard this sad news. I have not spoken with Bill for many years but my memory is of a proud man who loved his family. He was very generous with sharing his knowledge and helped me in my career. I am so sorry for your loss Mike.

Bill was a true gentlemen.  It was a pleasure to know him.  My sincere condolences to his family. 



I knew Bill and Eve long before I met Bill’s brother and my future husband Ernest. You see Bill worked with my Dad Walter Cole in fact I was the babysitter to their children Mike and Cheryl. At the time I lived across the street from them on Wells Street in Aurora, Ontario.

One time when Ern was home on leave from the Navy during the Korean war, Bill and Eve introduced me to his younger brother. That began a long history of our families spending time together. We shared camping holiday’s out at Hall’s lake and we always managed to make trips back to visit no matter where we were posted. Later in life we enjoyed trips out to Victoria, BC to visit the brother’s only sister Anne. Bill always hosted us when we visited Aurora and it was so good to host him out here in Alberta several times after Eve passed.

We have many cherished memories of our times spent with Bill, Eve and Family. We will miss him dearly.    God Bless


My favourite memory was from a few years ago when my Mom, Dad and uncle Bill stopped by my home in Red Deer. What made it special for me was that for the first time I was able to host him. I’ve plenty of memories of going to Ontario and being treated so well and everyone being so hospitable. So with uncle Bill’s arrival I was able to take everyone down to Drumheller to visit the Royal Tyrrell museum of Palaeontology. Uncle Bill was fascinated by the reconstruction of the many dinosaurs which give a real perception of their true size. Later we introduced him to his first raclette, we dined and sipped wine for hours sharing stories and visiting. It was a great couple of days filled with warmth and laughter. I’m so glad to have had that chance....he and I shared the name William, mine being my middle one,  he was my closest uncle and truthfully the one I knew best and had spent the most time with. I’m thankful for all the time we shared and will miss that there won’t be more as we go forward without him.. Rest In Peace. 

My sincere condolences to all Bill's family. Bill was an excellent bowler and always with a smile he would take the point. Bill was always a pleasure to bowl with and was a great opponent taking the win or loss in stride ,usually the later with a quick quip.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Bill's family. 
When I heard the news, I told Sal that the world has lost a good man.  And that was Bill. He was a good man and a true gentleman.  He was courteous and considerate of everyone from adults to the smallest child.  
His love for golf and hockey  were well-known, but came nowhere near to his love for his family and for his dear wife, Evelyn.  
For us, Bill was our neighbour and he was our go-to for the countless construction questions that we always knew he would have the answer for.  He may have wished for quieter neighbours through the years, but we only saw him with a smile on his face.
 He leaves a space that will never be filled, but knowing that he has rejoined Evelyn eases the loss for everyone who knew him.

I remember Bill Summers from my many years spent at the Aurora Chamber of Commerce.  Bill was loyal and supportive  and was one of the first individuals to sign up in 1987 for the first Aurora Home Show. 
Thoughts are with you all at this sad time.

I remember when Uncle Bill and Aunt Evelyn came out to BC to visit my Mom and Dad (Ann & Jake Rush). I was camping with my family and my parents brought them out to the campsite. It was a surprise for us, a good one and we had a nice visit.

I remember many a Sunday visit with Uncle Bill, Auntie Eve, Mike & Cheryl. I remember the laughter of Bill and my father John and also the vigorous discussions that highlighted their similarities and differences. Bill was my link to the 'Summers' family after my father passed way and it was through him that I have learned more about my father's youth, my grandparents William Sr and Annie and even the relatives in England. I was very fortunate to spend 3 days with Bill in early February going through family photos; listening to family stories; and touring places in Aurora where Bill, Anne, Ern and my father grew up and lived. I will always value this time and the connection he made for me with my ancestors.

I will always remember my Uncle Bill as a kind, generous man who was always so positive with a great sense of humor even when going through some very difficult times. I always enjoyed when we got to visit him and Aunt Ev and my cousins Mike and Cheryl. I also remember when he ran Summers and Smith.  He was such a hard worker and was always available when somebody needed work done in an emergency.  I also remember he aand my dad playing crib for hours and just enjoying each other's company.  I was looking so forward to Uncle Bill's visit out west to visit my mom and dad and my Aunt Anne and her family. I was to be their escort for this trip. It would have been wonderful to hear more of their stories growing up on the farm. Uncle Bill touched a lot of lives and he will be dearly missed.  Rest in Peace,  Uncle Bill.

I knew Bill for many years as a member of the Aurora Lawn Bowling Club. He was a very good player and loved the competition with all our members, he could make shots that we all thought wasn't possible. 
    We'll miss you Bill, Rest in Peace.

So sad to hear about the passing of my great grandpa Bill. He was always such a bright soul no matter where he went, and touched so many people's lives. He will forever be missed by his first born great granddaughter.

I love you, Grandpa Bill.

I am so sorry to lose Bill.  We played carpet bowls and lawn bowls for years.  Even when he couldn’t see the little white ball he could put his bowl right beside it.  I will miss him.

I only knew Bill for a few years as a new member of the Aurora Lawn Bowling Club.  He was such a good player and had an absolutely wicked sense of humour!  Whenever we played against each other we would always try to outdo each other - he always got his bowls closer the jack.  On those very few times I was able to sneak my bowl in for the point, he always high-fived me as a new bowler and gave such encouragement.  Such a nice man, I will miss seeing his friendly smile!

I had the pleasure of knowing Bill over the last year at Chartwell Park Place. He was a very kind and gentleman. We had many laughs playing pool on Friday afternoons. He is truly going to be missed by all of us at Park Place. 
Heaven has received a very special angel.

I first met Bill at lawn bowling in Aurora and the winter indoor facility in Newmarket. This was many years ago. I believe Bill really enjoyed lawn bowling as he played the game summer and winter.  We had good times teasing each other when playing on the same team or against each other when we played on opposing teams. In the summer of 2019 Bill was still playing well when he was out on bowling evenings in Aurora.

We all will miss Bill when we get back to playing.
