It is hard to believe that two years have gone by since the sad death of my dear older sister, Lynn.  I still miss my best childhood friend and think of our many happy times when we were children in Toronto, Balm Beach and Aurora, as university students in Kingston and as young women embarking on exciting new careers and relationships. No matter how far apart we lived, we were always close.
Dear Lynn, not a day goes by when I don't think of you and how bravely you coped with MS, the disease that changed your life so markedly. Your stoicism and optimism were amazing and made me appreciate you all the more. I will always cherish having you as my sister.

Dear Lynn, 
It has been one year since your passing and I miss you as much as ever. Not a single day goes by that I don't think of you and the adventures we shared by ourselves, with Mom and Dad , our brothers, our partners, your children as well as our many loving relatives and close friends. You were a terrific older sister -- bright, generous, encouraging, fun and stoic. There always was and there always will be a cosy place in my heart for you. Rest in eternal peace.

Dearest Lynn,
It is the last day of 2022 -- a year of personal joy and sadness. The greatest joy was being able to visit you after the easing of Covid lockdown and travel restrictions. Despite the isolation and health problems you endured during the pandemic, you remained as stoic and optimistic as ever. The greatest sadness was losing you just a few months later.
You were not only my older sister but also my best friend and wise guide through the years. I am grateful for the experiences we shared and for the memories I will forever keep tucked in my heart.

Lynn Hawley

The first born in a family of five, 
Lynn had the know-how, the drive to thrive, 
An intelligent lady, always top of her class, 
Climbing the ladder of success, steady & fast,
Independent and strong, she knew her mind, 
Lynn Hawley sure was one of a kind, 
She liked what she liked, it was just so, 
She had it in mind of how it should go,
A Wife, A Mother, A Sister, A Friend, 
A genuine Woman, for who you could depend,
She loved her kids, they meant the most, 
Loving and kind, to that I’ll toast, 
Cottage days were oh so fun, 
Hawley family summers were #1
A chuckle here, a giggle there, 
Such fun times we had to share, 
Newspaper comics, the funny for the day, 
Cut out, sent & shared was Lynn’s way, 
She’d send you an article of interest to you, 
Pop in the mail and sent to you, 
Her MS diagnosis was such a shame, 
Derailing her dreams, for when it came, 
So many things happened, not to plan,
Life altering situations, the way it ran, 
Took it in stride with a new direction,
Regardless of her obvious objection,
I’m sure there were times, when she was sad, 
Mostly not seen, not usually mad, 
A joy in her, she liked to share,
Despite being confined to that chair, 
Wouldn’t get her down, 
It would not win, 
Kept a smile on with that delightful grin,
Still she had a whit and loved to laugh, 
Made many friends long term that last, 
A complex woman with simple needs, 
One for who my broken heart bleeds, 
A special bond she shared with many,
Never forgotten, not by any.
We loved you Lynn with all our hearts,
Our tears now flow as you depart, 
We’ll tell your grand-children all about you, 
With warm memories & pictures, there are not few, 
Many stories we will share, 
Of their Grandma, with jet black hair,

I and my family were saddened to hear of Lynn’s passing.  We all have many fond memories of living and growing up across the street from the Hawley family on Richardson Dr in Aurora .  They were such fun times.  After moving away we were informed of Lynn’s brave struggle with MS.  She was an inspiration to her family, friends and all who met her.  
I and my family send our heartfelt condolences to all the Hawley family at this sad and difficult time.

My deepest sympathy to the family on Lynn’s passing. She was someone very special to me. Her sister Jan and I are partners and I regarded Lynn as my sister-in-law. Whenever we visited Lynn and Joel in Ajax, they always gave me a warm welcome. But there was also more that made Lynn and I feel close. She was interested in what I wrote, be it prose or poetry, and would enthusiastically comment on the writing, encouraging me to send her more. She was an astute critic and would also point out anything that was not proper grammar. Lynn was always upbeat and I never heard her complain about her MS. What courage and endurance she had! In spite of her condition, she raised two great children, Jennifer and Blake, and managed the household and was a loving mother and wife. I shall dearly miss her but find consolation that she is now
at peace. May her memory live on in the hearts of family and friends.



I remember my cousin Lynn from when we were kids, and the Hawley  
family would come to visit—always at Christmas, and sometimes in the summer.  My sister and I had lots of fun playing with Lynn and Janet and the boys on these special occasions.  My favourite memory is of 15 year old Lynn dancing with her Dad and then with my cousin David Chalmers at our wedding.  Lynn was the first person in our family to go to university which made a big impression on me.
As the years went by, Lynn had more challenges than most of us, but she met these challenges with optimism, grace and courage.  She is sadly missed and lovingly remembered.


Our deepest sympathies to Jennifer, Blake and the extended Hawley and Titus families.  It was a pleasure meeting Lynn and her late husband Joel, along with their lovely children, over thirty-five years ago in Ajax, when we became neighbours. Lynn was compassionate, caring and had a great sense of humour. I will forever cherish having tea and long talks with Lynn. Even though we moved away, Lynn always kept in contact, never forgetting to send birthday cards or just calling to chat. She would often offered words of wisdom and encouragement. Lynn was a role model, as she demonstrated strength while dealing with her health challenges.  She will be sorely missed. We will keep the entire family in our thoughts and prayers.

I'd like to extend my condolences to the family for your loss. I knew Lynn from seeing her at various MS functions over the years. The last time I saw her was a few years ago when I was selling flowers before Mothers Day to raise funds for MS. She spotted me and came over and joined me, helping with sales. She was a good promoter and I don't think anyone got past without being asked to buy flowers. We sold twice as much with her help!

My sister-in-love Lynn, I couldn't have been more blessed to have had you in my life. It can be said by many that you were a fighter and that this thing called MS wasn't going to stop you as long you could fight it. You drove your own car, read to the kids at school, even explaining to them why you used a wheel chair and went to your yoga class.

You and Joel raised to great children in Jennifer and the holy terror Blake, lol.

I enjoyed finding those special cards for your birthday and Christmas that I knew would make you laugh, but alas no more, darn it.

I can imagine you motoring up to the Pearly Gates in your electric wheel chair and as they open you stand up and walk through under your own power, the MS lost. All your loved ones will be there to greet you with open arms and the first thing you say is Joel I'm Home.

Dear Hawley family,

I had the privilege to meet Lynn through circumstances of a common nature.  She was one of the truly treasured bright lights in our MS Support Group meetings in Pickering, ON.

Her quick wit and welcomed humour - sarcasm and all - made our meetings a joyful treat once a month when she could attend.  She would share her journey, teaching career and all of the tricks and tips she would use to live well.  And she certainly did.  Her family was always mentioned as her pillar of support and she continuously helped us feel more comfortable with the uncomfortable.

My dear Lynn, I am so sad to hear this news as Deb and I was just talking about you, wondering how you were doing just a couple weeks ago. 

Rest well, may peace fill your heart knowing you are remembered by those that had the pleasure to know you.

I have so many good memories shared with Lynn - my friendship started when her children particularly Jennifer was in school with my daughter.  We visited over books, meals at times and had many good conversations -  just sorry i didn't get to visit after covid.
