Joan Johansen, a long time former resident of Aurora, died the way she lived, in faith, hope and love. She was a strong, independent, wise and generous person who was motivated and strengthened every day by her trust in God.
In 1960, she moved to Aurora from her home town of Toronto along with her husband Karl and their young children. Following Karl's passing in 1969, she became the main provider for her family and made the choice to stay in Aurora, where she lived until 1999. She experienced a content, quiet life as a single parent and a professional woman. Joan enjoyed her neighbours on Knowles Crescent, cherished the Christian fellowship of King Bible Church and served with passion for over 25 years as the Head Secretary at Aurora High School (1972-1998) where she was respected and appreciated by colleagues, students and members of the community for her diligence, constant presence, cooperative style and pleasant manner. Joan was truly an original in personality, style and commitment and an original founding member of her church and one of the very first employees in the history of Aurora High.
Joan will be dearly missed by her children, Elizabeth and Paul (Karen), and her grandchildren, Samuel, Kathryn, Karl (Hailey) and Bradley (Christine). She was blessed with three great grandchildren, Lilly, Christopher and Simon. She was also blessed to have the constant support and companionship of her daughter Elizabeth, who accompanied her with grace and love throughout her final years. No one could ask for more and no one could do more!
Joan was buried in the Aurora Cemetery, beside her late husband in a private family service on Tuesday.
There will be a celebration of her life and faith on Friday, July 8, 2022, 1:30 pm at Good Shepherd Community Church, 390 Bamburgh Circle, Toronto, Ontario.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Muskoka Woods Youth Foundation, in support of at risk youth experiencing a life changing summer camp adventure, or the World Vision - Adopt a Child Program.
