Janet was born May 1, 1939 in New Ross, Nova Scotia. She grew up as an ‘army brat’ living in different places across Canada, with her father, Francis Russell who served in WWII, and with her husband, Don Bonin, who served in the Canadian Armed Forces. While she has lived in Ontario for the last 52 years, she always remained a down east Nova Scotia girl at heart. Janet was very social and stayed close to so many friends and distant relatives over the years -- from back when she worked at Eaton’s in Downsview in the 1970's and 80's, to when she worked at various wine shops in Newmarket in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, to her daily coffee get togethers with a close group of friends at McDonald’s, and her cherished Thursday nights listening to live music at the Old Village Free House pub in Newmarket. Janet never missed a game of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays, often watching them with her family, and texting updates with her brother Wayne in Kamloops and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Don in 1997, her sister Phyllis in 1998, and her brother Allan in 2015. She is survived by her daughter Julie and son-in-law Rick (Koen), and daughter Renee (Jarrett) and son-in-law Nick (Saccone), her brother Wayne, and sisters-in-law Gladys, Violet, Elaine and Florence, her grandchildren, Trudy, Rhonda, Jennifer, Natalie, Dennis, Jordan, and Alannah, and the joys of her life, her eight great-grandchildren, Nolan, Quinn, James, Claire, Lily, Dominic, Charlie, and Mia.
