Passed away peacefully at Newmarket Health Centre, on Monday February 27, 2017, in her 93rd year. She was predeceased by her dear husband Graham Mitchell, devoted friend and companion of 58 years. Loving mother of Graham and his wife Caroline (Pembroke MA) and Cynthia (Aurora). She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Tamara and Vincent of Pembroke MA. Predeceased by her mother Adeline Clark, father Hon. Frederick W. Pirie Sr, brother Frederick.W. Pirie Jr, and her sisters Betty Farris and Judith Cyr. She will be missed by a very large group of nephews nieces and cousins. She had a special bond with each and every one of them.
After attending Netherwood and Mount Allison University, Dawn returned home to Grand Falls, NB, where she helped with the family business, Pirie Potato Company. Her role was diverse; from driving the delivery truck, to managing the potato chip ‘Gold O Crisp’ plant and the local cinema. She often accompanied her father to Ottawa when he served in the Senate. Dawn attained her pilots license, and enjoyed the outdoors, skiing, salmon fishing, tennis, swimming, horseback riding, gardening.
Dawn married Graham in 1956. They lived in Vancouver and Toronto. Dawn and sister Judy started their own company, House of Décor, specializing in interior design and antiques. Dawn's unique style flowed throughout every aspect of her life. She was a devoted mother, keenly involved in the lives of her children. Dawn was a gracious hostess who loved to entertain her family and friends. Dawn’s affiliations included Craigleith Ski Club, Granite Club, B&R Club, Toronto Ladies Ski Club, Toronto Cotillion, Magna Golf Club, United Church of Canada.
A private family service will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home (530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora) Internment to follow at Aurora Cemetery. If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to Nature Conservancy of Canada or the World Wildlife Fund of Canada.
