Bill was born on February 23, 1932 to Oliver James Henry and Lillian Ruth Schwarzenberg Henry in Baltimore, Maryland.
Bill graduated high school in 1951 and joined the United States Navy, serving as a Hospital Corpsman during the Korean Conflict, and earning an honorable discharge in 1955. Bill studied at the University of Baltimore, then worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He also achieved retail management positions, and finally retired from the Baltimore Gas & Electric company.
Bill first met Peggy Ann Dadd at church when she was in his mom’s Sunday school class. They fell in love as adults, and after seven proposals, she finally said “yes.” They married May 24, 1958. Bill and Peggy had two daughters, Wendy and Barbara.
After retirement, Bill and Peggy moved to Largo, Florida, where they enjoyed the weather, the beach, friends, singing in church choirs, seafood, boating and cruises.
Bill enjoyed building things. He paneled walls and built a deck in the house near Ocean City, Maryland; and added a deck, built-in bookshelves, and a fireplace, and transformed an unfinished basement into a cozy family room in the Randallstown house. He liked gardening, and built a greenhouse and cultivated a rose garden and vegetable garden. There was no building to do at the Florida house, so he and Peg visited Wendy and Richard in Denver, and Wendy “helped” Bill build a deck. He also liked cooking, sharing his talents at work and church. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing, and taught his daughters and granddaughter as much of those activities as they wanted to know. Mostly, he gave them the gift of being willing to try new stuff.
Bill was predeceased by Peggy in 2009. He is survived by Daughters Wendy (Richard Moraskie) of Denver, Colorado, and Barbara (Michael Socha), and Granddaughter Ashley Uphoff of Westminster, Maryland.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to legitimate Veterans’ Assistance organizations (check Charity Navigator) or Covenant House, an organization Bill felt strongly about.
