When his father died early, Robert helped his mother run the family restaurant. After high school, Robert worked for the railroad before being selected to join the U.S. Army during WWII. His sister Rita introduced him to Nora Breen, who became his bride April 11, 1942. Over the course of 23 years in the Army, Bob and Nora raised 8 children while moving around the country and overseas. Bob spent time in Europe during WWII, and later twice in France and then Korea.
After Bob retired from the Army, he worked Civil Service another 20 years, doing the same transportation job he performed in the Army.
Bob and Nora did extensive traveling over the years, making it to all 50 states and several foreign countries. They finally settled in Colorado, where they always said they would come back to.
Retirement was spent keeping track of 8 children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by Nora, his bride of 69 years.
