Richard Reese Kahl, husband of the late Mildred Louise Kahl, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Richard and Millie were happily married for 53 years and had three loving children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Richard served and defended our Country in World War II as a nose gunner on a B24 squadron stationed in the Pacific. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring after 29 years at the rank of Chief Master Sargent as a Member of the Inspector General’s Team at the Air Defense Command Headquarters, overseeing the inspection of our Nation’s Nuclear Weapons Facilities. After retirement from the Air Force, Richard was employed at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, overseeing disposal of chemical weapons and hazardous materials. Richard completed his employment career with the Government Services Administration as a Building and Operations Inspector.
He was born on August 2, 1923, in Bellaire, Ohio, to the late Charlie and Eleanor Kahl. Richard was a graduate of Bellaire High School where he was a four year letterman on the football team. Richard attended the University of Dayton where he also lettered in football prior to joining the Air Force.
Richard was a devoted and loving husband, family man and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also a caring friend. His love of his country and dedication to service followed him throughout his full life - He will be sorely missed. His family lovingly calls him “Pop”,
In addition to being a devoted family man, Pop had a love of all sports, particularly golf and football! He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Colorado Buffalo Fan, bonded with his boys during many rounds of golf and always enjoyed a run down a well groomed ski slope with his kids in tow.
Richard was preceded by his late daughter, Linda Louise Lee. Surviving Richard are his two sons, Richard of Aurora, CO, Terry and daughter in law, Kendra, of San Antonio, TX, grandson, Michael and wife Heather of Colorado Springs, CO, granddaughters Laura of Colorado Springs, CO, Crista of Denver, CO and great grandchildren Caylah and McKenzie.
Memorial Service will take place on Friday July 31st, 2015, at the Advantage Aurora Chase Chapel, Aurora, CO. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
