I should not be writing this. Each day since you’ve been gone, I try to find words, words left unspoken, words to console, words to help me make sense of this. Most of all, I come up empty. No words will return you to us. I wonder why I should even speak at all. … 

I speak because I love you— in the way a distant aunt loves her curious, bright-eyed nephew, the darling boy she once knew who became the exceptional man she wanted to know better. 

Your heart is what I cherish most. Your heart is what I miss most. Your heart, its troubles and weights, seemed pained most. There were so many more words to say, to share— I should not be writing this.

Amid life’s tumultuous abundance, the way feels sometimes obscure, fuzzy, cloudy. I pray we carry the patience to wait out life’s storms. 


i wasn't his sister, cousin, or even a friend, but i still considered him a part of my family. i only knew him for a short 3 years, but he had such a huge impact on my life. when i first met him, i remember being overwhelmed because he was so close to Isaac. neither he nor i enjoyed sharing him, so both of our feelings got hurt, but once we found common ground, you'd think we were siblings from the way we bickered and teased each other. Isaac and Caden both pointed out to us that we were alike from our sense of humor to the way we could both argue ourselves out of anything. i know we started growing closer though, and i had a lot of fun with him. i didn't realize just how much i loved him, even though he drove me absolutely nuts. i'll always have a very special place in my heart reserved for Nathan Montgomery. i know he'll probably poke and prod at it to annoy me, but i also know that it just means that he cares. i wish i had told him that i loved him, but i know he knows and i know he loves me too because i just had a dream about hugging him and telling him i loved him before he went back home to Colorado. i hope his mind is quiet and that he's finally able to be happy and prosper like he deserved. i know he's frolicking through tulip fields right now, holding hands with Betty White ❤️

When Nathan and I first met in January, we began talking about our times in the service.  Each morning, we would share a wisecrack which I think brightened our day.  I wish we got to know each other better.

Going to miss you brother.   Sorry I can’t be there this weekend, but your legacy will continue forever.  


The young man with a BIG Heart! He will be missed by many, as he made a positive impression on everyone he met. I am honored to have worked with Nathan and will cherish those memories. My heart goes out to the family!

Oh my sweet Birthday buddy. Only the best are born on Oct 10th!! Working with Nathan at the Homestead Truck stop was an experience. We became fast friends. He was my favorite cook and I was his favorite waitress! His sarcasm and his wit sat well in my soul. No matter what he showed on the outside, Nathan was an amazingly sweet and loving guy on the inside, he was always goofy and he knew how to make you smile. He would never let me leave work at night, alone. If my car was broke he would be the first to offer a ride and to "take a look at it"  I miss the Firebird! We were just teens then, but he always offered everything he had. He would call me at midnight on OUR birthday so he could be the first one to wish me a Happy Birthday. Nathan, you were something special. Birthdays will never be the same... I know Nathan loved me, I just wish he knew how much I loved him back. Rest easy my "bad ass birthday buddy" I will miss you forever and always. Thank you for being amazing. 

There is just too much to say about Nathan. Definitely the man who kept it real and never sugar coat anything. He'd tell you how it is without a 2nd thought. He always put his loved ones before himself. Always the life of the party and always kept smiling. Brother, you will forever be greatly missed!

Montgomery was a character. We went to MP school together in the USMC. He was funny always had something to say but very good with cars and tech stuff. He will truly be missed we talked every once and a while after he got out but guess it wasn’t as much as it should of been. Gonna miss the random catch up chats man. RIP  I’ll have to find some pictures and post them up. 

Nathan, the guy who would tell you what you needed to hear not what you wanted to hear and somehow still made you laugh about it.  We took different paths in life after highschool but you were always a brother to me.  So many nights spent working on your firebird, playing some games , or just terribly attempting to play basket ball.  Too many good memories to find just one.   I'll always love you brother 

Nathan was a classmate of mine and I can definitely say he kept us on or toes everyday. He was hardworking and very smart and when I had a question he was always there to answer. He will be missed and class won’t be the same without him. 

Nathan was a classmate of mine. He was funny, smart, and loved to make people laugh by being very outspoken in class. A couple of weeks ago, we were learning to take blood pressure during class. Nathan was nervous, and when the teacher asked us to pair up, he just sat and stared straight ahead in class. I recognized his nervousness and said, "Nathan, you're with me!" I asked why he was so nervous, and he said he'd never been able to hear through the stethoscope in the past. As someone well-trained in taking blood pressures, I felt excited to have the opportunity to teach something new to this guy who I felt was so bright and seemingly knew it all. He nervously and gently put the cuff around my arm; I had to remind him to tighten it, and he said he was afraid to make it too tight and hurt me, which I think truly shows just how sweet and kind he was. Once we got the cuff in place, it took a couple of trial and errors, but by about the third or fourth attempt, Nathan looked up at me with big, wide eyes, and I knew instantly that he got it! We both smiled and beamed with pride. Nathan carried himself as though he was so confident and knew all there was to know, but at that moment, he truly showed his soft and vulnerable side, and I was so humbled and grateful that I was able to elicit that out of him and teach him something new. That boy-like smile of his will stay with me for years to come. He made a lasting impression on me, and I will miss him dearly.
