Megan Thomas was born July 7, 1936, the daughter of Clara Jane (Ginny) and Thomas William (Tommy) Thomas in Birmingham, England. Megan grew up with her sister, Audrey, and half-sister Madge during World War II. Since she was a young girl she had to stay in the city with her parents during the war. The family survived the Birmingham Blitz from 1940 to 1943 when the German Luftwaffe heavily bombed the city. Her family lived on Tilton Road where Megan attended Tilton Road Girls School. She graduated from Tilton Road Secondary Modern Girls School in 1951. The General Remarks on her Scholars Leaving Certificate was a reflection of the woman she became…”One of the most successful pupils and Prefects. She enjoys her work and prepares it carefully and conscientiously. Has made an excellent Deputy Head Girl. Has initiative and powers of leadership. Has the unique honor of eight years perfect attendance and a clean punctuality record”.
In 1954, she met her future husband, Richard Hubbart, who was a soldier stationed in England with the United States Air Force. In August 1955, they were married and shortly thereafter she came to the United States for the first time. She became a citizen of the United States in 1959 and spent 20 years with Richard, living on numerous military bases throughout England, France, and the United States. During these years, as she was raising their two children, Megan was actively involved as a volunteer in various organizations on the military bases. She was frequently recognized for her contributions as an American Red Cross hospital volunteer and her leadership roles with Family Services which assisted military families in their transition to new base assignments. After her divorce from Richard in 1975, Megan began her own working career in Aurora, Colorado and held various retail management positions with Fashion Bar and Denver Dry Goods Company. During the 1980’s she became an avid runner and completed a number of marathons. In her later years, hot air ballooning became a passion for her as she fearlessly spent many weekends traversing the sky with friends.
On October 16, 2017, Megan passed away at 81 years of age. Megan is survived by her sister Audrey, her son Kyle and his wife Shelly, her daughter Denee and her husband Ricky, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Megan will always be remembered for her strong spirit, boundless energy, compassion, and generosity. Never wanting to be a burden, if she could speak today she would smile, wave her finger while looking you straight in the eye and say "Don't worry about me, I will be fine."
1 Peter 1:23-25… “You have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
