Donna Jean (Lingle) Kerr

Donna Jean (Lingle) Kerr, 96 died peacefully, on Monday. July 5, 2021 at Cherrelyn Health Care Center in Littleton, Colorado. After a long struggle with progressive dementia. She was the wife of the late William Russell “Bill” Kerr, who preceded her in death after 51 years of marriage.

Donna Jean was born on March 9, 1925, in rural Crawford County, Iowa, on a farm just north of Denison; the first of seven children to the late Alfred Thomas and Edith (Darling) Lingle. She was a graduate of Denison High School, Class of 1942, and Business College in Omaha, NE two years later.

She met her husband, Bill Kerr at Hanscom Park United Methodist Church in Omaha, NE, after his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater as a Naval Corpsman in WWII. They married on February 14, 1947, in Omaha, NE. Bill Kerr attended Nursing School at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha, NE, graduated class of 1950. While he was at Nursing School, they acted as “house-parents” for some other nursing students in a small house near the hospital. In 1957, Bill joined the Army Nurse Corps and they had duty stations at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX - times two; Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI; 71st Evac. Hospital, Fort Campbell, KY, and Vietnam; Valley Forge Hospital, Phoenixville, PA; Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Denver, CO; Fort Bragg, NC, and Fort Sill, OK. They retired from the Army in Denver in February of 1975. Have lived in the Denver Metro Area ever since.

Donna enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, word puzzles, reading and traveling.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: Ann and Bob Kerr of Littleton, CO, Col. (Ret.) Kenneth and Donna Kerr of Clarksville, TN, and Russell and Rebecca Kerr of Parker, CO.; seven grandchildren: Christina (Patrick) Kerr Scrivano, Edwin Kerr, Nathan (Jennifer) Kerr, Rachel (Steve) Megyesi and Reed (Toni) Kerr; Brian (Karina) and Mark Hultgren; thirteen great-grandchildren: Abel, Anderson Megyesi, Charis, Felicity, Hosea, Madelynn Megyesi, Micah and Titus Kerr, Allie, Avery, Carter, Kaelyn and London Hultgren; sister, Janice Carlson of Denison, IA, brother, Daniel Lingle of Fair Grove, MO, brother and sister-in-law, Alfred David and Rosetta Lingle of Anaheim, CA, sister-in-law, Judy Lingle of Manilla, IA, and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Relatives and Friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Edith, her husband, Bill and sister, Marjorie (Glenn) Lochmiller, brother-in-law, Kenneth Carlson, sister-in-law, Martha Lingle, brothers, Ramon (Josephine) Lingle and Leroy Lingle.

The family invites everyone after the graveside services for a light luncheon to the son's residence, Robert Kerr, 6321 S. Jellison St., Littleton, CO 80123.
