GROVETOWN, Ga. - William Joseph Prewitt entered into rest on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at his home. Joe was born in Saulsbury, Tennessee on September 30, 1923 to James Vernon and Willie Hensley Prewitt. He lived in Jackson, TN for many years before moving to the Augusta area in 2000. Mr. Prewitt was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Navy from 1943-46. After the war, he was a valued and loyal worker for the Illinois Central before his retirement in 1981. While in the Augusta area, Joe was a devoted member of the Hephzibah Baptist Church. In 2011, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63years, Bobbie, on April 10, 2011. He was a loving husband and father to his daughter, Betty Pollard. Joe loved gardening and fishing and nothing pleased him more than to share the results with his family and many friends. Joe loved the beauty of sunrises, sunsets, and nature. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906 with Pastor Danny McGill officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be friends from Hephzibah Baptist Church, Ryan Hollis, David Meeker, and Dennis Hoyt. Survivors include his daughter, Betty Prewitt Pollard, son-in-law, Michael Pollard of Grovetown; nieces and spouses: Linda and Cecil Chiles, Kaye and Larry Cross with Kim and Tony, Debbie and Bill Hollis with son Ryan, and nephew, Gary Prewitt. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Rd. Special appreciation is extended to Odyssey Hospice and the Hephzibah Baptist Church family for the love and compassion given to Joe and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hephzibah Baptist Church, 2527 GA Hwy 88, Hephzibah, GA 30815.
