AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Opal McTier Smith, 82, of Augusta, Georgia entered into rest Tuesday, January 8, 2013. She was a faithful member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class. Mrs. Opal retired from Southern Bell / Bell South after many dedicated years of service. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and served as Past President of the Life Member Group in Augusta. Additionally Mrs. Smith was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 205. Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband, James Dale Smith; nieces, Cathie Newsome, Janet Brooks, Doris Purvis and Delores Carson; nephews, Dennis Brooks, Ken Brooks, Gary Brooks, Jeff Brooks and Frank McTier. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Leslie Rooks McTier; sisters, Evie Brooks and Johnnie Brooks; brother, James Emory McTier; and nephew, James McTier. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Thursday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Lumpkin Road Baptist Church with Rev. Don Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to Lumpkin Road Baptist Church, Faith in Action Building Fund, 2540 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906.
