John Warren Lichty, 86, was called to his heavenly home on January 10, 2017. His funeral service will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Elliott and Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA., 30906. Family will receive visitors preceding the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A private interment will immediately follow the service in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Family have asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA.org)
John was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on January 1, 1931. He was born to Sarah Luree Lichty and Glen Wilbur Lichty. John attended Ann Arbor High School and was well liked by his peers and teachers for his infectious smile and ready laugh.
Following graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country for 23 years, retiring with the rank of First Sergeant in 1974. During his service he fought in the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star Medal. John was proud of his service to this country and often could be seen wearing his Vietnam Veteran ball cap.
John met and married June Olive, the love of his life and spent many joyful years with her. He was devoted to his “Junie”, often putting her well being before his own and always seeing to her welfare. She supported him in each of his endeavors, whether it was his military service or his love of fixing cars and remodeling houses. He was thrilled to have their daughter, June Lizetta Jerrall (deceased). The family enjoyed spending time with one another and shared many great days of family fun.
John had three siblings, all of whom predeceased him: brothers Oran and Richard Lichty, and sister “Sissy” Glennetta Camfield. He is survived by son-in-law Bernard Jarrell, grandson Donald Jarrell, granddaughter Tiffani Jarrell, and great grandchildren: Bryan Jarrell, Felicity Jarrell, Nautica Jarrell, Stephon Hill, and Jana Jarrell. He also was well loved by his nieces and nephews: Linda Lichty, Deborah Camfield-Baker, Valerie Lichty, Howard Camfield, Cynthia Camfield-Toth, David Camfield, Angela Camfield and Angelique Camfield; several great nieces and nephews, as well as numerous other extended family members. His teasing, laughter, and smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
