Dorothy H Thornton

Mrs. Dorothy (Hankerson) Thornton was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Allen and Cherrie E. Hankerson, she was born in Augusta, GA on July 10, 1921, and she died on November 18, 2024. She was the youngest and the last survivor of the immediate Hankerson Family. She was a Jehovah's Witness.

Mrs. Thornton received her education from the Bethlehem House Kindergarten, Gwinnett St School, Charles T. Walker School and she was a graduate of Lucy C. Laney Evening Class, and she also attended Paine College. Mrs. Thornton was a former Foster Parent for the Juvenile Court System, and she was a Restaurateur for over 50 years. She was known throughout the community for her generosity and love for others.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Thornton and her only child Constance Hurst Hull. She is survived by her six grandchildren: Susian Hull, Emmerstine Hull, Valarie Hull, Dwayne Hull, Constance Hull Harrison, Marcus Hull and their families and Goddaughters Carolyn Gordon and Delene Mathis, who rendered courteous and affectionate care as a daughter during her trial times and many family and friends whom she loved dearly.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906. Following the funeral service will be an interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 120 Watkins Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901.
