Kirby was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. Thompson, his mother, Helen Phillips, his daughter, Denise McCracken, his son, Lavoy Thompson, his daughter-in-law, Bonnie Thompson, his granddaughter, Celeste Thompson, his great granddaughter, Hope Montesino, his brother, James Phillips, and his sisters, Dolores Snipes and Mercedes Cobia.
He is survived by his sons, Steve (Teresa) Thompson of Dundee, Darryl (Michelle) Thompson of Dundee, and Terry (Deborah) Thompson of Vero Beach. Kirby was loved by 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Kirby and Virginia pastored churches in Florida and Georgia for 46 years, he was an administrative bishop in Alaska for 2 years, with Kirby’s full evangelical ministry spanning over 60 years. He was a devoted member of Ridge Community Church of God, where he retired from full-time ministry. He enjoyed piloting, painting, and building. He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched.
A viewing will be held at 10am on November 19, 2021, directly followed by a Celebration of Life at 11am at Ridge Community Church of God in Dundee. He will be laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale.
