Jonathan Wayne Stanfield, born December 21, 1972, to Mother Betty Jane (Hoosier) Stanfield and Father Jessie Bernis Stanfield (Deceased), passed away on February 16, 2023, following a heroic year-long battle with aggressive cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and is thankfully no longer in pain.
Jonathan was born in Winter Haven, Florida to a large family, including three brothers, Jessie (Stan) Stanfield, William (Bill) Stanfield, Jeffrey (Jeff) Stanfield (Deceased) and two sisters Pamela (Stanfield) Bobo, and Beth (Stanfield) Reid. As a boy he enjoyed music, mechanics, and anything with wheels. Anyone who knows him can attest that that never changed.
As a young man he met and married his first wife and gained his oldest two stepchildren. Joshua Ferris (Wife – Tiffany and sons Tristen and Cameron) and Meagan (Workman) Mccoy (husband Mac and children Emma and Lucas). He quickly learned that to take care of a family you had to work hard and became an incredibly hard worker and learned every trade he could to support his growing family.
Jonathan and his first wife added two daughters to their family. Shelby Clarissa (Stanfield) Attaway (Husband Judson and son Tyler) and Kristina Nicole (Stanfield) Powell (Husband Josiah).
Although Jonathan enjoyed outdoor life, Motorcycles, and trucks it all took a backseat to providing for his family because “Kids come first – Always”. Working all the time, his family grew up and he found himself quite unhappy in his current life situation and divorced his first wife in hopes of a happier tomorrow.
If you ask his friends and family – they will tell you the next chapter of his life was his happiest. What started out as a good friendship grew to be so much more.
A soulmate sounds so cliché, but it cannot be explained any other way. Shannon Barlow and Jonathan Stanfield fell in love, and you couldn’t separate them. Instead of choosing freedom and travel once his kids were grown and he was single, he instead chose his “Beautiful” and to help raise her children, Kylie Barlow, Zoe Barlow, Jenna Barlow, and Jordan Barlow. Neither of them had ever known such happiness, laughed so often, loved so much, or cared to be anywhere else. Once a workaholic, Jonathan no longer wanted to be anywhere but home.
After many years together Jonathan and Shannon decided to get married, but their happiness was to be cut short. A few days before the beginning of 2022, tragedy was revealed. Cancer … Stage 4… Incurable. This was completely devastating news but not nearly as painful as having to tell their children. Watching their hearts break was torture. Jonathan was determined to never give up and to fight it all the way. Headed home from the hospital in January a wedding plan was quickly made.
On April 2, 2022, Shannon Barlow became Shannon Stanfield in what could only be described as a party with a wedding in it. The couple’s best friend, Kenneth (Smokey) Daurity, became an ordained minister to marry them and all the men wore kilts! It was a perfect day (if you don’t count the torrential downpour, thunder, lightning, and tarp malfunctions).
Over the next few months Jonathan fought the cancer with Shannon by his side. He spent every possible moment with his family and friends. It was a hard-fought battle and he refused to give up. His last days were spent in the loving care of his wife surrounded by his family. He left us on February 16, 2023, but he will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 6th, 2023 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at The Barn at Lazy P Ranch. 1081 Homeland Garfield Road, Bartow, FL 33830. Casual attire and refreshments will be served.
